I wrote this big long thing a few minutes ago... don't know if anyone actually saw it, but I thought about what I wrote, and decided it was better left if I put it this way instead ( Read more... )

I am very torn about this. I understand, and fully support, that people have differing views. That is what makes America the place it is.

What I am having trouble with is this, the issue was not a religious one but a legal/civil rights issue.

How am I expected to be ok with someone who thinks that I am worth less than they are. That is what the vote was about, civil rights and equality, not religious beliefs or commandments.

Just like I would react and probably not associate much with someone who was making me fel bad about myself on a regular basis, so I do not see how I can be fine with someone who thinks that just because I am gay I do not deserve the same rights afforded to every other citizen. Last I checked the constitution that makes this country great is supposed to protect equality. I also do not understand why in a country where we supposedly have religious freedom, any one religion can affect legal issues or affect my rights as I am not nor do I plan on being part of the religions that would have supported prop 8.

I do not call those who voted yes on 8 evil, but I do say that those people crossed a line when they stripped me of my right to be equal. In this country you can think and believe whatever you want as long as it does not infringe on the rights of others. I mean if i believed that women should be stripped of their rights because it was a "religious belief" does that mean I should be able to vote and strip their rights?

It is the same thing. Descrimination is wrong no matter what the reasons behind it.

This ended up being longer then I wanted it to be. I don't care how people vote as long as they are not infringing on the rights of others. When they do that they are spitting on the face of this country and defiling the constitution that is supposed to protect our country and us.

The funny this is... My gay friends and my bi friends have the attitude of "it happened, we have to work harder" not "f-- all of those who voted with opposing views and they are all horrible people." You have the right to feel hurt, discriminated against, and upset about the outcome. Beleive me, I am just as hurt and upset as everyone else. But at the same time, I can't go around calling "yes" voters horrible people because they aren't.
