Ron wasn't at all certain how he'd come to be left all alone with Norbert. Well, if he was entirely honest with himself his having mentioned Charlie's familiarity with Norwegian Ridgebacks might've had something to do with it. Still, it didn't seem fair that he was the one watching the little dragon while Hagrid, Harry and Hermione where off somewhere discussing just how they were going to get Norbert safely out of Hogwarts. Ron was building up a solid sulk when he heard strange mechanical sounds outside. He couldn't imagine what it was. Ron hadn't heard anything like it before, and whatever it was it was inside of Hogwarts. He looked at the little dragon to see if the sounds had disturbed his sleep. Nope, still one soundly sleeping little dragon. Well then, Ron would go and see just what had made the strange mechanical sounds. He stopped at the door. Ron could hear his mother admonishing him to bundle up before going out. He got his scarf wrapped warmly around his neck and stepped outside.
The only thing Ron found outside was what looked like a large blue crate with a light on top and the words "Police Call Box" on it. Who put lights and letters on crates? For that matter why paint them blue? It couldn't be to move Norbert in. It was much too big for one little dragon. Suddenly a tall curly haired stranger in a very long scarf stepped out of the crate. Ron got a glimpse inside as the man stepped out and he could see the thing was bigger on the inside. All right, so the crate was magical and likely the owner was some sort of wizard. Maybe he was a friend of Hagrid's? Maybe he was here to collect Norbert? At the very least he had to be someone Ron could talk to for a bit didn't he?
"Hello?" He said to the tall curly haired stranger.
"Oh. Yes, hello, young man. Would you like a jelly baby?" The Doctor held the bag out to the boy.
Ron was well aware of the warnings made about taking candy from strangers. He could hear his mother making some of them just as he'd heard her telling him to bundle up. How dangerous could taking this candy from this stranger be? Ron reached into the bag and took a few of the proffered jelly babies.
"Good lad. You couldn't by chance tell me where I am?" The Doctor asked with a toothy smile.
The boy narrowed his eyes at the man. For a grownup who had found his way onto the grounds of Hogwarts it was odd he was asking where he was. Ron wasn't at all sure what to say to that. He didn't have long to ponder either. While he was being puzzled by the question, Norbert was waking up all alone. The little dragon came out of Hagrid's on the wing. Ron barely had time to notice him zip towards the stranger before a mechanical dog rolled out of the crate.
"Caution, Master," it announced as it trundled forward from the crate. Norbert didn't approve of the announcement, the stranger or his mechanical dog. Ron tried to think of something quickly. Hermione would know just the right spell, but all he could think of was the scarf he'd put on. Ron took his scarf off and tried to catch the little dragon with it. The idea wasn't his best, and his scarf was soon suffering for it. Norbert set it on fire. The mechanical dog seem to take Norbert's fire breathing as a personal attack and promptly shot the little dragon. Ron yelped. He was just supposed to be watching Norbert.
"You didn't kill him did you?" Ron asked desperately.
"Negative, it is only stunned," K-9 assured the boy.
"There you are. The dragon is fine. More than we can say for your scarf. Have to offer you a replacement for it," the Doctor disappeared briefly into the TARDIS. He returned with a scarf that was rather smaller than what he usually wore. Ron couldn't help frowning just a bit. Gryffindor colors were crimson and gold. The scarf the stranger held was crimson and orange.
"Who's colors are those?" Ron asked curiously.
"Prydonian, they're my school colors," the Doctor wrapped the scarf around the boy a few times.
"There. Good as new. Well, almost anyway. Sorry to have been a bother. We'll be going now. Come along K-9," the stranger gestured to his mechanical dog and they both went back into the crate. Ron stood there with his hands on the scarf as the crate disappeared. It was funny that it made mechanical sounds as it was obviously leaving by magic. Ron hadn't heard of a Prydonian school. He'd have to ask Hermione about it whenever Hagrid, Harry and her came back to check on Norbert and him.
