Torchsong, icons and Sci-Fi Women

I'm going to Torchsong! I'm going to Torchsong!! I'm going to Torchsong!!!

It's my hope if I repeat it often enough I'll believe it before I have to catch my flight out to New York. I've got a layover in New York on the way to Chicago and a layover in Newark on the way home. I've flown before with a friend, but this will be the first time alone. I'm terrified of missing my connections and-or losing all my luggage. I've been to some conventions before: a little local comic book one as a kid, and two Highlander ones. Thinking that I'm really going to go to this one though gets me excited beyond any coherence. The difference is the universe John Barrowman landed a part in when he landed the role of Captain Jack Harkness. It isn't a comic book convention with no celebrities, or a convention with actors from a TV series that only began airing in '92. This is a convention with the actor who plays the character that's become my favorite Companion in all of Doctor Who's 46 year history. Hell, some days he's my favorite Doctor Who character period. There are days he beats out the Doctor -- any version of the Doctor. Yes, even Tom Baker's Doctor.

I really love Jack.

I've made a lot of James Murray icons of late, but tonight I'm just posting the icon I have set as my default currently, a John Barrowman icon and my favorite James Murray icon.

This list is Ith's fault. I started it after she got me thinking about my favorite female characters in science fiction with her discussion of Lessa from Anne McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern series. Once I loved the series, but I've been unhappy with it since I read Dragonsdawn I think. This is my Top Ten women in science fiction list.
