I've Heard It Said, "Bad Things Come In Threes."

I've been waiting since I sat through Heroes' and Torchwood's second seasons to have the feeling someone else's sophomore season was a thoroughly depressing let down after what seemed like a first season bright with promise. I was afraid Burn Notice would do it, but so far so good there. *Knocks on wood.* Then I thought maybe Pushing Daisies. ABC may be letting me down there, but not Daisies. However...

I've finally seen the first and second seasons of Primeval. My favorite characters first season were Rex, Stephen, and Claudia. I'm pretty sure anyone who's seen both seasons can tell from that list how the second sophomore season is a thoroughly depressing let down to me.

I don't care if "Jenny" is played by the same actress that played Claudia. I didn't like her anywhere near as much. I found Nick's tearing up his picture of Claudia and him at Stephen's funeral almost as depressing as the funeral itself. Not that anything was more depressing then watching how they had Stephen's brain shutdown every time they had Helen come around. They'd pretty thoroughly murdered him before they actually fed him to the predators. I'm thoroughly convinced she had mind control lip gloss, acquired from whoever sold John Hart on Torchwood his poisonous lip gloss, and she was dosing Stephen every time she kissed him. First season I thought she was a creepy bitch. Second I developed a deep and abiding hatred of her. Ooooh, there was so much about second season I didn't like. Connor's "girlfriend" Caroline, I'd like to have seen her put in a freezer and getting crockery thrown at her. Leek got eaten by the monsters, but not Helen. The only consolation is the whole damned thing was AU from first season. It was "Jenny's World" not the original one.

I think I'll imagine how in Claudia's world she got a rather befuddled Nick who grumbled about the lack of ARC funding and technology while adoring her, and the Stephen in that world had the good sense to not let the creepy bitch get near him. Maybe that Stephen even got to feed that Helen to some raptors. It was a different world after all and I'm free to dream.
