I finally got around to seeing the episode...
I'm quite sure I mentioned over
here that Owen Harper is my second favorite character on Torchwood -- second only to Jack. I went into the episode spoilered about how it was going to end. I was braced pretty well. I even laughed when Owen agreed to going out on a date with Tosh that he'd signed his own death warrant right there. The woman has a full "three times is a pattern" pattern of her relationships ending badly. I mean no one even remembers the third one. It seemed like I might get away without tears or nightmares. Even as Owen was shot I wasn't thinking, "Oh my God they killed Owen!" I was thinking, "Well, that was a clean shot, only way he could be anymore dead would be a head shot."
My slide started once I absorbed how much blood there was. My worst nightmares tend to involve a lot of blood. If you don't believe me just ask Aeryn, Darien, Methos, or Jack. They're all familiar with it. The blood didn't tip the scale by itself. My nightmares also tend to involve a lot of pain and suffering. I might have escaped safely if they'd cut to the credits as soon as Martha pronounced Owen dead at the scene, and left a few things out of the previews for the next episode. They didn't however, and I didn't manage to escape without tears and a bad dream. Jack's soft little, "Owen? Owen??" after Martha's words, and the shots in the previews of him holding Owen's hand while Owen was on the autopsy table were too much for me.
I started crying with the, "Owen? Owen??" and sniffled my way through the preview. My bad dream, it was really just a bad dream not a full out nightmare, featured bleeding and some autopsy tables. Course part of the reason it didn't make full nightmare status is that the boys on the tables got better quickly, Aeryn with flames. Hazard I think of having been talking about his being a phoenix some more recently. Aeryn and Methos got better, Jack and I were surprised, but not Darien. I understand his not being surprised by Aeryn's whole rising from the ashes routine, but I'm not so sure how he knew Methos was going to be fine. I might have to try asking him about that. Anyway, I can only hope Owen is going to be better eventually.
