I've been tagged again by the 'good vibe fairy' in the guise of pradagrrrl (for some reason i cannont insert her journal contact, bollocks to that). Being home with a bad case of an upper urinary infection, I will take the challege with gusto, even though D is kinda a hard letter. If anyone would like a letter to help them start their week on a positive note, feel free to comment asking for one and i shall be sure to anoint you with a random letter... (don't worry, i won't give anyone x or z... unless people really like xylophone solos and zulu records as much as i do)
1. Diana Ross. Duh...of course this diva had to top my list. I've been obsessed with her since I was little playing with my Diana Ross Barbie doll (she had a long silver gown, a huuuuge mess of diva hair and long finger nails that used to both scratch the fuck out of everything and get caught in said wonderfully flowing hair. she was also a good inch taller than all my other boring white generic Barbie’s but still wore what looked to be 6 " silver stilettos. ) Her music has helped me through tough times and will always be my favourite diva to dance to in my underwear.
2. Denmark. Well Scandinavia in general but it was Denmark that was my first entry point into this strange world of beautiful people, crazy antics, healthful living, lustful furnishings and a trip that saved my life about 6 years ago.
3. Drag shows. Okay, I’ll be the first to admit that when I went to my first drag show about 11 years ago I knew that it wouldn’t be my last. It is a feisty world filled with glamour, drugs, sex and destitution but fuckin’ hell it makes a great show.
4. Denim. Not the fabric (though in grade 6 I did wear head-to-toe acid wash which helped me gain the ever glamerous title of ‘jean queen’) but the band. The Band originated after the demise of Felt in the 90s. The songs are witty, somewhat mindless, filled with wonderfully dancible organ and synth and dagnabbit though they arguably are no substitution for Felt they are possibly even more fun.
5. Drunk Dancing. arms flailing, eyes closed, feet moving a mile a minute. I can’t fuckin’ dance but put enough booze in my body and I think that I’m the best in the world and isn’t that what dancing is all about?
6. Day Dreaming. It was the first thing I ever got in trouble for in school and even as an adult I cannot remove my head from the clouds. I’m an Aries, it is what I do.
7. Depression Glassware. Well, to be truthful, I lust after all vintage glassware but Depression glassware reminds me of sneaking into antique shops as a kid and drooling over their pure radiance. I am a nerd.
8. Days off. Currently on my 3rd sick day in a row, I’m starting to really appreciate that my body really needs time off. In 3 days I’ve gotten through 3 books, watched 2 movies, returned all my bottles that have been taking over my tiny kitchen, and am now actually updating my journal. Wowza.
9. Dimples. While growing up, I hated mine and would refuse do smile at family gatherings for fear of my mother’s squeals. I have always related my ability to learn to smile as a child without dimpling my cheeks with their demise. RIP wonderfully dimpled cheeks.
10. Disabilty. I know this sounds absolutely weird but I’ve always been fascinated with disability and one’s ability to overcome. Growing up I would hang out with the special class and was often caught trying to teach them during lunch or recess… when I was in grade 7, I spent half of the year in a hospital for children with disabilities (I was in the asthma ward but we went to school in the hospital with most of the children with disabilities) and had my first crush on a boy with spina bifida. I admired his spirit and from that moment was always intrigued and mildly obsessed with those who choose to overcome.
