So a brief update on current shit for once.
So those of you waiting with bated breath for more ZOMG mindblowing game reviews... yeah, I've been kind of dragging my feet on that lately. Less because of work and shit and more because... um, of playing games actually. "Black Ops" has been eating up a fair amount of my time, and then "Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood." And any of you close to me will know that the "Screed" games are close to my heart and since this one is surprisingly massive... yeah.
Anyway, those two will be coming eventually, though it's getting hard to ignore the reality that I am essentially wasting my time.
Day 17 - A pairing you thought would never work out, but did?
Pass. My amazing clairvoyant abilities not at all based "Chappelle's Show"-style on existing tropes/stereotypes mean I can ALWAYS tell when two 'conflicting' people are going to get together. :)
Day 18 - What is the cutest pairing?
Fone Bone/Thorn Harvestar (Bone)
This is... kind of an odd one for me to pick, not only because SHE'S a dynamic badass lady in the mold of Sabriel and Lyra Belacqua... and HE'S an unsubtle Walt Kelly homage, but because I really don't ship it as a romantic couple.
Really, their relationship as it progresses through the story kind of defies a simple categorization, just because they end up going through so much-- good and bad, high and low, levity to danger-- that by the end, it's transcended simple 'friendship' or 'love' or whatever. There's an unbreakable bond of trust and loyalty there, the knowledge that they have each other's backs through thick and thin, and the genuine way this is conveyed is a large part of what makes the ending so bittersweet and universal.
Day 19 - A pairing you've rooted for since the beginning?
Dr. Allison Mann/Agent 355 (Y: The Last Man)
To be fair, I've got no problem with either of their canon-ships (355/Yorick and Allison/Rose). But GODDAMN, did I want this to happen.
Granted, the YES PLEASE factor was part of it, but mostly because their differing (occasionally conflicting) perspectives and made their interaction more interesting, and really a stronger and more natural chemistry (honestly, moreso than the 355/Yorick dynamic, which felt a little more forced, even contrived at times). To be honest, I was really shipping it passively as early as Vol. 2, long before we knew Allison was gay or that she was in fact attracted to 355.
Actually, they DO end up hooking up (which made me immensely happy, considering I'm usually wrong when it comes to these kind of ships in a mainstream series XD)... but instead of being the basis for some semblance of an actual relationship (which would have made the already-tired beat-around-the-bush-ing with the 355/Yorick thing-- which was obviously going to happen anyway-- a little more interesting by playing with the dynamics), it is literally just there to kickstart the 355/Yorick relationship. Which still doesn't go anywhere for four more volumes, when the series ends. And before you can say "what the fuck just happened," Rose is practically thrown onto Allison, and they end up hooking up... literally by the beginning of the very next volume. Though considering Rose is a hot badass Auh-strahlian spy with an eyepatch, you really can't blame her.
Really, it's a shame that it never got as far as a romantic relationship, but they do have a strong friendship throughout the series and well, they still hooked up. Plenty of ships never even get THAT far. :)
