I've been reading The Purpose Driven Life Again :D let me say, everytime I read it I get different things out of it.
Today's lesson is on LOVE
Life is all about love. I'm not talking about boyfriend/girlfriend, hunsband/wife love. I'm talking about love in general, like loving your family, loving your friends, etc... Have you ever noticed that? Nothing else really matters if you don't have the feeling of love within you. We are constantly surrounded by people, because we are such social interacting beings. With daily interactions we learn to love one another. Love is a very funny thing, it isn't something that you can get an instruction manual and read up about, it isn't something you can learn by yourself. Love is something you learn to do and feel when we have regular and close interactions with one another.
Love isn't the good part of your life, rather it's the most important part because life without love is worthless because relationships, not achievements or the acquisition of things are what matters most in life. Think about people who are in their hospital beds fighting for their lives, in those moments all they really want is to be surrounded by loved ones ( meaning the people they love and the people they have relationships with) and not the material things they have in life or their accomplishments.
The Best Expression of Love is Time. "Time is the most precious gift because you only have a set amount of it. You can always make more money, but you can never make more time. When you give someone your time, you are giving to them a portion of your life that you'll never get back" (p. 127). Hence, the essence of love is not what we think or do or provide for others, but how much we give of ourselves. Just remember, the most desired gift of love is not diamonds or roses or chocolate. It is undivided, focused attention.
You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving. Love means giving up for the benefit of others.
The best use of your life is to love others. The best way to express your love is to devote your time to others. The best time to love is now.
To love unselfishly is not an easy task, it runs counter to our self-centered nature. That's why we have a lifetime to learn to love.
