I would probably smack the shit out of you if you decided to get Robyns name tattooed on you.
And, how, exactly, can you lump cell phones and tattoos into the same "subculture"? By "subculture" do you mean "standards of life in the early 21st century"? Because, clearly, that is all either of those things are. Having a cell phone no longer defines you as someone of importance, just as having a tattoo no longer defines a person as "living on the fringe of society". Both are as common place now as Chevys and poodle skirts in the 50s.
I knew you'd have some smartass comment. You have an ethnocentric point of view on this issue. Cell phones are not commonplace all over the world, just here.
Actually, they are commonplace in other parts of the world... England, Hong Kong, Russia, etc; with quite a number of countries having more cell phone subscriptions than they have people. Currently, about 80% of the entire planet has cell phone coverage with nearly half of the global population using a cell phone - and with countries like India and China adding an average of 5 million cell phone users every month, that number is growing every day.
Well then, I'll side with the "other" 3 billion people in this world who prefer to live and experience life in person, rather than isolate themselves in cellular purgatory.
You can make statistics support any argument, so I find your numbers irrelevant. Did you know that 99% of people who use cell phones are annoying? =)
"Isolate themselves in cellular purgatory"? Cell phones have opened up communication lines to people in undeveloped countries where land lines are not an option. People who previously had no means of contacting, say, medical help are now able to do so.
Do you think I am an isolated, annoying, jerk with no morals?
I wouldn't, don't worry. I know you'd be pissed. Plus it would be a waste of money - you'd probably throw it out.
I agree 100% with what you say but, you are not one of these people, and having a cell phone would not make you one of them.* We live in an area that is full of rude, ritalin-popping, isolated, narcissistic jerks - we are surrounded by them. Don't you think these same people would be rude and self-obsessed without their cell phones? The phone just amplifies it - tremendously
