No kitty cat, yr part of that good 1%, however...

You misunderstand what I mean by isolation. I don't debate the technological merits of cell phones and their ability to improve communication in areas with poor infrastructure, but rather their impact on society.

Cell phones have created a truly depraved culture of rude, shiftless, ritalin-popping, self-obsessed idiots who are so oblivious to reality that they simply cannot abstain from dowloading mpegs of stupid cgi penguin movies while they stand in line for their capuccinos. All over America people choose their cellular phone as a companion over real living breathing humans.

Bathroom stalls are crowded with smarmy jackasses who text while they take a dump, the roads are full of swerving SUV's bearing Mr. and Mrs. chatterbox to the mall, where they will continue to blabber while purchasing more cell phones and cell phone accessories.

Personal conversations are broadcast for all to hear by loudmouth troglodytes on the subway, blathering pedestrians wander like lemmings into oncoming traffic, and children are indoctrinated by their own parents to bring cell phones to grade school because we live in a "post- 9/11 world".

That's a world I don't want any part of.

I wouldn't, don't worry. I know you'd be pissed. Plus it would be a waste of money - you'd probably throw it out.

I agree 100% with what you say but, you are not one of these people, and having a cell phone would not make you one of them.*
We live in an area that is full of rude, ritalin-popping, isolated, narcissistic jerks - we are surrounded by them. Don't you think these same people would be rude and self-obsessed without their cell phones? The phone just amplifies it - tremendously.

Can the same argument be used for people who play video games? Or use the internet? Or have personal music devices? I can rattle off a list of people who would rather "interact" with a machine (or with another human being though a machine) than go out and have actual human contact.

I think we need move to the country. Get away from all the duders who act like they are in The Crazy Donkey 24/7. Get away from all the SUV driving soccer moms. Get away from all the fucking malls and 7-11s.
Maybe we can start a farm. Live off the land.
Um. Or not.

* I am not trying to argue that you should get a cell phone... I am just making a point. I know how you feel and I respect that. Mostly, when I tell you to get a cell phone, I am just pushing buttons. Because I'm good at it. Plus, I love to debate with you.
