Doing my look book shoot for Spring 1, Spring 2, and Summer 2011 this weekend.
Loving the new chiffon fabrics I've found. LA is amazing for suppliers, seriously. Everything is about 1/3 of the price than it was in Canada, plus n Canada the selection was soooo small. LA is amazing for business. Been getting interest from larger accounts, larger stores, and am seeking an investor/backer for my line. I just don't have that kind of money to be able to produce on such a high level to that many stores. If anyone knows any, let me know.
My line is now in two showrooms, one downtown LA and the other in Toronto. Getting new stores regularly. And its great because the ones that ordered keep reordering as well.
Here's a preview of Fall 2010/11.
You can view the whole collection here www.beatadirycz.com and view the holiday collection pieces there as well. My website was redone, and is updated mostly. We still have work to do on it, but it's there and you can view all current pieces on it.
Things are going really well, but of course I'm pretty burnt out as usual. Working at least 14 hour days, usually 7 days a week is pretty exhausting. My husband is in the same boat. He's working on a bunch of comics at once. It's amazing to watch him work. Anyone curious that isn't already familiar with his work, you can see it at www.markenglert.com
Aside from business stuff, things are going well. Love our apartment, it's way bigger and we got to stay in the same area in Hollywood which we both love.
Been really needing to exercise. I've gained weight since moving here. I was so used to walking everywhere in Toronto. I don't walk anywhere here, it makes quite a difference.
After the look book shoot I'm starting up my exercise routine again to try to lose weight in time for Europe in September.
Our wedding anniversary of being married is about a month and a half away. Damn time flies. Not sure what we're doing yet. We'd love to drive up to Seattle, Portland and Vancouver, but see how it goes.
We're planning to go to Europe in September. The next few months are busy. Next month Mark's dad visits us from Florida, then we will go to Comicon in San Diego. After that is our wedding anniversary. Then in September my best friend Kristin comes to visit and we leave for Europe soon after that.
Not sure what we're doing for Christmas yet. I just can't imagine not spending it with my family and being around snow. It kills me when I think about it. I really really want to be there. It's tough. My husband's family all live here, but the last two ears we've spent xmas with my family in Canada. I know that he's my priority now, he's my family, but it's damn hard to separate from your family like that. Every year since I was born I've spent xmas with my parents. How can I not be there?? We spend thanksgiving with his family here, there's no holidays that I will see my family. I just don't know what to do. I'm sure we will figure it out.
Aside from that, I've been quite disappointed with the people I've met here. I've met some of the meanest and crappiest people that I've met in my whole life. It scares me that most Americans are like that. And I hope I'm wrong, it's just my experience so far has been so crappy. It just seems so different from what I'm used to. If you have an issue or something is bothering you, if you try to confront the person even in a nice way, they flip out in like an, "How dare you think I've ever done anything wrong?" It's been crazy. I've just never experienced such disrespect in my life, and over things that don't even mean anything. It's just hard. Business wise I just love it here, there's just so much here, so many resources and my business has expanded quite a bit since moving. But on a personal level, I just feel like I don't fit in that well. I mean, I've met some people that I hang out with and I love seeing, don't get me wrong. But overall, I have found people to be rude, disrespectful, have no manners, and just refuse to communicate because they feel they never do anything wrong. I just hope I've met the wrong people, and it's not the overall vibe. Just in comparison to Canada and Europe where I've lived, people were so much nicer and so respectful, and also manners are so important. Anyways, I could blab on about it forever. I'll end it at that.
Well, it's late, I'm going to sleep now.
Hope everyone is doing well!
