japaneese rockn'roll adventure: american style

Mar 25, 2005 21:31

Yesterday might have been the best/most interesting day of my life. I am still shell shocked and can't quite fathom what happened. I don't know how I did it. I feel like some awesome late eighties movie staring Fred Savage or something. I don't think that this internet journal medium can really do my ecstasy justice.

I was determined to get into the show last night. There was no real way around it. Not going wasn't an option and technically I am one of the most resourceful people I know. I mean, I can make an entree with a fridge full of condiments and frozen waffles. So that morning I laid down on my carpet, stared at the ceiling, thought out a plan of action, rubbed my stomach(my favorite part of my body), turned up the ghostmice, and gathered my thoughts. My goal for the day was to not only get into the show for the low cost and age limitless price of free but to meet my rock and roll supergods, Guitarwolf.

Plan One: Something I have been meaning to try for a while. A long while. I have heard stories upon stories and have a few friends who have the wrong birthday on their driver's license. An officially correct typo was what I was looking for. I am due for an updated license anyway with a new address and age and all. I wanted to see if I could fill out the form again with the date a few years off. I wanted a real fake i.d. That didn't work out. It would have if i had tried it in 2002 but not in 2005. That's what the desk clerk with the handlebar mustache said anyways.

Then I hauled my defeated ass to the library and got a new Huxley book. Then Ryan called when I got hungry and I ate with him and tried my best to re-ignite my flame for the evening bonfire of Japanese Zombie Rock! I then called Miss Addie. I knew that if anyone could make me feel special and exciting again it would be Addie. Luckily, she was available. She played with my hair and my clothes and smiled and made me feel ready to try again. I kept making myself laugh really hard and then spit a lot because it made me feel tough. We then decided that the only option left was to dye ALL of her hair pink. Like Drake's moon we were ready to go. With that we cruised back to my bachlorette pad with our stolen hair dye and set to work. Now her whole head is more exciting than rollercoaster through a nursing home. Santana came by with my dad and we all half watched a movie. It was nice to see Santana during the day. I'm glad that his new job is working out so teriff. My dad went out on the date with the playboy model he is dating (weird but true). With some 'clean' clothes and a digital voice recorder I was ready to execute plan zwei(2).

I think it came out real wicked!

Numbereo Dos: Since there is a radio station at my house and all I figured that I needed to use it to my advantage. PRESS, COMING THROUGH! I knew that Exit-In always did their sound checks for the headliners at 6:30. I knocked on the front door and the only guy who could hear me wasn't sure how to unlock it. I looked through the glass and I could see the elysian group doing what they do best. This guy with rather large pants noticed my struggle with the locked door and the ring of fog that I was creating on the glass. He said that he knew a secret way in through the back because his rap group just opened for Atmosphere when he played here. I took his word and trusted him and followed his lead. Unfortunately, it led to nothing. I then used the knowledge that I already had from past show sneak-ins to the Exit-in and asked some Japanese guys who were unloading instruments from a bus if they knew of a way that I could get Guitarwolf to do a station identification for Radio Free Nashville and WRVU. He was the lead singer of Electric Eel Shock. He didn't speak much English but was happy to talk to me and was really friendly. Then some awkward British guy with long hair and a broken leg over heard our language barrier and discussion and said that he was in a band that was playing that night, as well. His name was Hal and he was in a band called the Thieves. He was very nice and brought me into the tour bus. We sat and talked and said that he could get me in if I did an interview of his band too. I said, "FUCK YES YOU KNOW IT!" After that I was quickly introduced to the tour manager, Craig or better known as Sweetdog. He spoke Japanese very well and had a thick southern accent. He thought I was a cool as hell rockn'roll girl, for sure. He said that not only will he get me that interview with Guitarwolf but he'd get me into the show as well. I stood next to the stage for the rest of Guitarwolf's set and freaked the fuck out. Craig had me follow him to the back dressing rooms for the bands and told me to hang tight in Guitarwolf's room and that they'd all be into hang out in a few minutes. So I sat there and made sure my recorder worked and my camera's batteries weren't dead and waited in the room with my shades on reading my new book.

Then entered Basswolf in all his glory. Before I get into detail about the events that took place I want everyone to know that I am not going to write about everything out of my utmost respect for the wolves. He said that he was starving and threw his trash on the floor and introduced himself and we talked about somethings and cracked some jokes and where to find some good food nearby and where the Mercy Lounge is located. He said that if anyone gives me shit to say that I am his girlfriend and we walked out arm in arm to go find the tour manager to make sure I can get in and to get some drinks. It was rad! Then I met fucking SEIJI, yes T H E GUITARWOLF. I don't know how at the time, but I totally kept my cool. He was happy to meet me and we made fun of pronunciations of things. He told me about how he met Joan Jett and how he gets nervous before each show. I asked him how they got here and he said that they travel via UFO, of course. I asked him about Wild Zero and he said that it was a non-fiction documentary. He said that they kill zombies all the time. This was all in awesome broken Japaneese style English, of course. He made fun of my name being April and said that I could call him September. Then I said, "Fuck you guitarwolf!" and he retorted "Fuck you April!" and we both just started yelling "Fuck you" at each other! It was hilarious. He said that he admires Bruce Lee. He said that his grandma is a Wolf that lives in Mt. Fiji so that makes him a quarter wolf. He told me of the plans for Wild Zero II: Back to the Future. It sounds so awesome!! I asked him what I should do if I ever come across any zombies and he said that I should play guitarwolf! He was really modest. He told me about his first time in America and his love for Elvis and his last Johnny Thunders concert. He said Rockn'roll! He said "Just Do It!" I met Drumwolf, too! I helped him with his hair. All these interesting people kept coming in and out and they all thought I was cool and wanted to hang out with me after the show. I was then immediately put on the guest list for the Immortal Lee County Killers show across the street. Dude, it was a crazy night. I brought Ryan in to meet the band because he was gonna help me get in and he's one of my best friends but he wasn't that into it. I didn't understand; I thought he was a big fan. Hmmmm.

"Rockn'Roll! YOU are listening to 98.9 RADIO FREE NASHVILLE because you are so rockn'roll! I am guitarwolf- ahhhh!"

I did the interview with the Theives. It was hilarious. I told them that I was going to be completely honest and not act like some indie prick and said that I have never heard of them. With this I proceeded to ask them no questions about their music but rather inquires such as, "What are your thoughts on shark attacks?" and "Did you know that in 1992 all of the main US Presidential candidates were left handed?" and I threw in a "How was it taking the hover craft over the Atlantic?" A fantastic interview, for true. They asked for my email address and want to send me some records or talk about radio stuff or something. I dunno. I also got the most BADAS$ DOLLARS AND CENTS station ID's from Guitarwolf and Electric Eel Shock! Seniji asked me if I would take him and the band boot shopping that next morning before they had to go to Atlanta. Then a security guard was all, "BLAH BLAH HACK can i see yr band ID?" and Seniji stood up for me and said, "No worry bout it. She with the band on tour. All is good. She stay with us. Thank you sir." RADICAL! So I watched the show which was COOLER THAN BRAINFREEZE! Electric Eel Shock put on one of the best shows ever. Guitarwolf did a fucking rad as fuck show! They started with a hair comb and a beer chug by Seniji! Basswolf went crazy and the show ended early. Guitarwolf rocked out! I was slammed all over the place because I am so small and not afraid to dance! Oh man Oh man! That next morning I got a call from the hotel they were in downtown to come out and shop with them for cowboy boots. Amber met up with us because I knew she really wanted to. She came up to me about it that night and I knew she was a big fan! When I got to the hotel Seniji hopped out of the van and asked if he could ride shotgun with me! HOLY SHIT HOW COOL IS THAT!?! Seniji and I became friends! He asked me about my work and I asked him about zombies and Japan. They all thought I was this hilarious ultra cool American girl! So we went shopping at Katty K's! Then Amber pointed them in the direction of a Waffle House. I got a big hug from Seniji and a good bye from everyone else! I taught them all American rockn'roll secret handshakes and they thought it was rad! HOLY COW! What a 24hrs or what?

So today I went into the ACLU and then Leah and I met up. It was an awesome time we had. We took pictures as you can see in the cut. It was refreshing to be with such a close friend. We haven't seen each other in a while and her first response to seeing me was "Yr so tiny." hmmm, she's the third person to say that today. Maybe I need some spinach. I know I am small(5'2" and 120something) but I hate it when I feel small. Usually my height has nothing to do with my presence; sometimes, however, I feel so under the radar or defenseless. So Leah and I partied hard and couldn't stop laughing because Science Rulez!!! She thinks I am a lot like Andrew, which is true. Same sense of humor I suppose. After she went home I didn't feel like going anywhere but I felt like I should have. I took a bath. I got some phone calls and made some. One of which was an invitation to eat waffles with Casper the Sweed. Nothing seemed really appealing to me. I kind of was in the mood to sit at home with just one anyone and become better friends with whoever it would have been. Either that or to be with a special someone whoever it is. I just didn't feel social. I hung out with my brother and my father. I read my book. I watched Clueless for the bezillionith time. I love that movie. I do; it's true! It makes me really happy everytime as if I didn't know all the scenes by heart. There are only about five movies I can watch over and over again like that. Ok well I should go do something else. Have rock'nroll evening!

Ask me for details if you want to know more about my Japanese Punk Rock Evening with the Stars!
