This came up rather suddenly, but our exalted PM Stephen Harper is holding his promised vote on same-sex marriage today. He's not trying to repeal it, but rather holding a vote on if Parliament should hold a vote on weather to proceed with repealing or changing the existing law. This is his way of satisfying his social consevrative base and possibly creating a wedge issue to use against the other parties in the next election.
If it fails - and the odd are it will, as even members of his own party are voting against the motion - supposidly that will end the issue once and for all. However I wouldn't put it past Harper to come back to it if he ever gets a majority government.
