This weekend has been the first in a long time that we weren't visiting people or going to weddings or otherwise distracted. We had decided a few days before to take a little shopping trip across the border to Buffalo.

On the way down we stopped at the Stokes Trial Garden and looked around. It was beginning to rain so the visit was short, but I snapped a few interesting pictures. We also spotted a Praying Mantis on one of the plants, and a flock of several Killdeer, probably all gathering to migrate. Goldfinches and several types of bees zipped in and around the sunflowers. Even in agricultural land there's so much wildlife.

Traveling further down the congested QEW we decided to cross the border at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge. The backup along the bridge was very long, and we were caught in stop-and-go traffic for nearly 2 hours before getting to customs. The delay wasn't that bad; it was raining, we weren't on any specific schedule, and it was kind of relaxing to watch the raindrops beading sliding in rivulets down the windshield.

The customs lady asked us all of about 3 questions and waved us through 20 seconds later.

The trip to the US was brief. We looked around in a very crowded outlet mall. I bought a book at one store and a microwave egg cooker thing at another. Dave bought some shirts at another place.

We then looked around at a Target, and then a grocery store, wandering around in awe looking at all the American brands. I bought some Microwaveable grits (not available in Canada) to take back. We had dinner at a nice Italian place in Niagara Falls, NY, crossed back into Canada without incident, and spent the evening watching television.
