So, my 30+ year old refrigerator is dying, as I mentioned previously, so this weekend, I purchased a new one, which will be delivered at some unspecified point in the future. Best Buy's computer system online was projecting midweek of this week, but in the store it was estimating no sooner than July 9. I'd guess it's more likely to be sooner, rather than later.
Be that as it may, I have to make sure that the new fridge will fit in the kitchen. So that meant altering my cabinets. I tell you, that's not as easy as it sounds. The cabinetry in my kitchen is massively overbuilt and extremely sturdy. Instead of just taking down the cabinet over the fridge, I ended up having to cut off the bottom half. The cabinet was/is nailed down so securely that it was actually easier to cut part of it off than to take it down. They really don't make 'em like they used to.
The second part of this was figuring out if the new fridge could actually make it into the kitchen. See, the new fridge is 33 5/8" wide at the narrowest point. My house is rather old, so most of the doorways are 32" side (nominally). The back door is 32", and so is the doorway from the dining room to the kitchen. D'oh. Actually the dining room to kitchen passage is about 32.5". So, I had to remove the doorframe and all the trim to make enough room for the new fridge to pass. Fortunately, the front door is 36", so all I have to do there is remove the closing mechanism for the screen door. It'll be a tight fit, but it should suffice. If, you know, they ever deliver my fridge.
Yesterday morning, I also mowed the lawn, which needed it. Kat and I also went out to get ice cream, which, in retrospect, was probably not the best thing I could have done. For some reason, not long after eating ice cream, I started feeling poorly. My entire upper body started aching, I developed a nice headache, and my stomach became upset. Not exactly pleasant. I ended up consigning the contents of my stomach to the waters and went to bed early. I feel pretty much okay this morning, although I didn't sleep particularly well.
It wasn't all bad, though. I had the GTO out most of Saturday, and there's nothing like cruising around town in a musclecar with the windows down and some classic rock on the stereo. That car is ergonomically perfect for driving with one arm on the window sill and the other in the perfectly-worn dent on the steering wheel.
