I'm trying an experiment on this brooch, by actually keeping track of my inspiration and ideas for it. I want to take a single petal brooch, and maybe convert it to a flower (this makes sense to me, I think that it might be gibberish. These things happen) okay, to explain...I generally prefer flowers for my brooches, they're fun, they're fiddly, and they're time consuming. But I got some great responses to my single stand alone brooch. So, logically, I'm thinking of doing a test drive of an idea with a single stand alone brooch, and then, if it works, making multiples (smaller) of that brooch, to use as the petals for a flower. This may be a new definition of insanity, or a new entry in the psychiatric diagnosis book (DSM something, I think?)
anyhoo....
So here's the idea page. Sorry about the size of the image, but I put text on it as well, and I want it to show up.

Angkor Wat broochAnd now, Onwards!
This is 2 hours of refining the design and starting the pattern darning of the gold. I'm using cotton muslin (roughly 50-55 threads per inch) and the strongest magnifiers that I've got, but I do like the effect.
From
Angkor Wat brooch Hi folks, yes, I did just remove over an hour's worth of stitching. I'm now on to plan C, (for couching) And if this one doesn't work, I'll head home and start this again tomorrow. (I am beginning to suspect that this approach needs some fine tuning, perhaps making the piece smaller will solve some of the problems, but for that I need a photocopier that can shrink stuff)
From
Angkor Wat broochAs an explanation, I'm using a mossy green for the couching intentionally. I know that red or yellow are traditional, but obviously, this isn't a traditional piece. (or I hope that it's obvious, one never knows)
