i really don't have anything to say right now. i'm just passing time and getting as much computer quality time in as i can while heather is away and erica is cleaning her room. i skipped work today. and it's such a glorious day! even though i've been inside for most of it. did take james to a bank and to work. watched young frankenstein. gene wilder. funny stuff. i forgot how much i liked that movie. kudos go for justin for a) having the movie and b) leaving it here in a box full of dvds. i was thinking of that movie was released today, critics would view peter boyle's "putting on the ritz" routine as exploiting mentally defecient people. if you haven't seen this movie, do so. i'm not going to tell you it's a laugh out loud a minute farce but it does have enough moments to keep you watching it. its basic mel brooks fare and keep in mind it came out in 74 so the humor isn't going to be "hey it's a penis" or "there's cum in this beer that i'm drinking yet i'm unaware". nor is it exactly high brow. it's more ..hmm zany? if you know mel brooks and gene wilder at all, you know what i mean. mostly sight gags. but watch it then try to tell me these aren't funny:
gene wilder demonstrating nerve-impulse action by faking out the old man.
teri garr hearing a wolf howl then starting the "Werewolf/wherewolf" gag.
wilder telling his cohorts that under no circumstances should they open the door for him. then once inside and waking up the monster, wanting back out. i think it's one of the funniest moments.
anything marty feldman does. especially the scene about "eye-gor" and "froderick" or the nice little groucho marx line he does when wilder tells him to help him with the bags.
gene hackman's cameo as the blind man. "where are you going? i was going to make espresso!"
didn't really care for madeline khan. except for her line about "and a special hamper for socks and poo poo undies"
anyway. it's worth the 70 mins or so it runs.
man i'm bored.
