The adventures and debauchary continue everyday in this city of faith, sin, paradise and Spanish-style marti-gra.
After four weeks have passed, I thought things would be simmering down some around Sevilla. They've only just begun. The food's getting riskier and tastier (everything from veal to squid to baby pig to...huge legs of pork cut up right in front of you). The nightlife is getting out of control. The work is getting a little harder in classes. And I miss home a little bit more.
I was doing well on the homesickness thing for a while, and then tragedy struck today. I can't even tell you how traumatized I am. My Senora came into the living room, holding something small and mangled. She asked if it was mine. It was Mr. T Bear, his lifeless body. He went through the wash with my other clothes. I mean, I have had this bear since I was born, he has never been washed. he looks terrible, his face is all squished and maimed and it's really really bad. I had a lot of things going on in the last couple days, arguments with friends back home and craziness here and stress and my budget and then T almost dies. Diiiies! I hope he's salvagable, or otherwise it will be a long time until I can sleep again.
Everyone eats olives. I think they are nasty. But water and olives are a typical "tapas" or appetizer in most restaurants.
This was a typical meal at home. We ususaly get "Patatas y torillas", eggs and potatoes ina quiche-like shape. Then our Senora made us a little italain pasta with meat sauce. Delisious, or, requisimo!
At the apartment we don't get much meat, so the one time I treated myself to a restaurant I split lamp chops with some friends, and they were out of this world. The spices and style they used are native to the Canary islands, islands that are Spanish territory off the coast of Africa.
And dessert I split with Candace! people here share a lot of food, it's more abut the expierience than stuffing your face in Spanish culutre. This was an almond ice cream cake. Sooooo good. Candace and I are going to open a bakery together, and obviously make millions.
Kiira and I discovered small, deep fried donuts at the fair one night. We ordered them covered in sugar and melted chocolate. My head just about exploded.
Field trip time! We loooooove field trips!
Field trips! Briefly Italica is a small city outside Sevilla with many preserved ancient roman ruins dating back hundreds and hundred of years. It was great and only was two ueros on the bus to get there.
Here's one of me so I can prove I'm actually in Spain...
Everyone in the ancient Ampitheatre.
Statues!
On Saturday we hit up the old Islamic mosque in Cordoba. It was a mosque for Muslim worship in 700 ad, but then was taken over by Christians in 1492. I don't know how I feel about that, taking over space and forcing people out. It was beautiful but the whole idea gave me mixed feelings.
We also saw a temple for Jewish worship with a beautiful garden outside. Jason modeled for me, he's Andrew's roommate.
And Candace on the ground. She's an even more insane photographer than me.
Lots of people get married in Cordoba becasue it's so beautiful. I saw at least three brides that day alone.
Random photos taken while wlkaing the city. This is the Guadalquivir River.
Street art.
My classmate Justin and I tried to get some salsa lessons from our friend Brice who's a rpofessional. I don't mean to brag or anything, but we basically blew everyone else out of the water. We got mad skills.
Rae thrilled to bits about SPAIN.
And the flower-shot.
Different clubs are opening up now for the winter months(even though it's still 70 degrees). Usually everyone meets in the park down the street from me first and grabs some "tapas, cervezas, y tinto veranos". In english, food and booze.
Rae, Lauren from Hawaii and I in Maria Lusia Park.
Jason from New York, Andrew and I at the beginngin of the night!
Rae and Candace.
From the left, Mike(from Boston!!), me, Roberto, Candace and Lauren with a happy Eric in the back.
Afterwards we went to a club that looked like a ship form the inside! The did a wordfight on stage in the middle of the night, just cut the music and duked it out. I thugh it was insane. My camera was put away by then though. Or was it...? Maybe you need to talk to me about those. Or meander around facebook you teens and twenty-somethings, I'm sure a little more scandal *might* be there.
I'm going to the park for a wine with Kiira because I need to get out of this apartment on this beautiful day! I love you all incredibly much so, and miss you more than I could express. Make sure to drop me a comment if you're reading this! Hasta luego guapos!
