St Stephen's Day

Dec 26, 2008 19:33

Got up late... and then got ready to Go On The Wren (pronounced "Ran" - cos we're Irish!!!).

This involved getting dressed up in strange costumes - we took a picture! - getting our musical instruments - I had a harmonica and Mary-Ellen had a bodhrán which she beated with a big stick (no really, she did) - and heading out.

Mary-Ellen had a bandana over her face and I tied an tie over my nose (I needed my mouth to play the harmonica) so nobody would know who we were (we looked that ridiculous!) and we headed out to the neighbouring village cos Simon and his friends we're going out in Tulla.

It was fun, we sang the usual song

The wren, the wren,
The King of all birds,
St Stephens Day got caught in the furse,
Up with the kettle,
Down with the pan,
Give up a penny to bury the wren!

Sang with extreme gusto and a bit of a dance on Mary-Ellen's part (I didn't want to be jingling the money box).

Then while they either went and got money or they waited for it we went on and sang Little Drummer Boy.

We also went to Quin.

It was all good fun. And we made a little money. So now we've paid Sheila back for the Declan O Rourke tickets, and we almost have enough for both our first weeks rent! Good Day!
