a. What was the corrupt bargain- JQ Adams won even though he did not have the most votes because Clay put his support behind Adams, helping him become president

ii. How did these alliances form against Jackson- they were anti-Jackson- wanted anyone other than Jackson

2. force bill- enables Jackson to invade S.C. to enforce tariff

1. specie circular- land could only be purchased in gold and silver in order to circulate coined money
a. a role in the panic of 1837- caused by lack of oversight and inflation- oversupply of paper money

1. Cherokee vs. Georgia- Cherokee’s cannot constitute a foreign nation because it is not in constitution

1. causes- lack of oversight and inflation- oversupply of paper money
2. bank- only coined money worth anything to the bank of England- Jackson was anti-bank-set up “pet banks”à no federal oversight of money supply- state banks issued extensive amts. of paper money and money loses its value

a. Whig Platform
i. Anti Jackson opposition- issueless party- anyone who hated Jackson
ii. Log Cabin- Hard Ciderà tried to copy Jackson with common person platform
