I absolutely love the song, it's really great and I agree with you. Just one thing... I always thought the "Teacher didn't you know" part was sang by Kimberly. :D
It's Cheryl. I was just watching the "Tangled Up" Tour performance of "Black Jacks" and Cheryl sings that part. I didn't used to like this song an awful lot, but this performance won me over. :)
Maybe the blackjacks mean like doubts? Somethng stopping the relationship from working.''I say stop (to the blackjacks) cause I love you baby'' and the bit about hard and blue and driving her crazy is obviously about her man being a pain. I think it's about the man causing the demise of the relationship, the girl wants to keep it going but knows there's no point. (the ''something that I have to say to you'' is that it's not working out) ''it's hard having fun when you can't see the sun anymore'' - she can't be in a relationship with him because she never sees him. He probably disapears off down the pub. :D yay I worked out the song!
In the beginning, I wasn't too keen on "Black Jacks". I think the best way to put it is that I just didn't "get it". But soon enough, like the rest of the Tangled Up album, it eventually clicked with me and now I think it's brilliant. I just love the chorus, it's epic. And the way they styled the performance of it during the Tangled Up tour just made me like it even more.
Well I've discovered especially with the Aloud that many of their songs are just bizarre on first or second or even third listens. But I've found that the songs that are less "instant" end up being the ones that I adore most, i.e. "Biology", "Sexy! No No No...", "Love Machine"...etc., whereas some of the songs that are more immediate end up losing their charm fairly quickly.

I absolutely love the 'New York nothing' bit, just for the randomness of it all. :]
