Song title: Blackjacks
Album: Tangled Up
Style: Mid-tempo
Central vocalist: Nadine
Best Lyric:" It's hard having fun when you can't see the sun anymore,
Wasting my time out at sea when you're following me to the door"
Song Meaning: I think this song is about a woman reluctantly ending a relationship because she never sees her man and he is making no effort to save their relationship.
Verdict: There's something very 80s sounding about this track. It sounds like a cross between Duran Duran and Kim Wilde to me. That's of course a good thing. I love the intro and the way the verse builds up to the chorus. Very strong drum beat which helps build up the song and gives it some edge. I can only hear only hear Sarah and Nadine on the chorus. The two different tones to their voices sound great together. I'm still not sure about the 'New York nothing' bridge. It just sounds like a shouting match. Is it meant to? I can hear Nicola clearly in that bit, maybe she's using the emotion of her hatred for Chris Moyles? Cheryl/Kim's versus towards of the end of the sound - 'Teacher didn't you know...' is very soothing and nice to listen to. Maybe this could of been a single, it's certainly a very unique and strong song. Infact, Tangled Up is a strong album.
