Weekend and Family facts

The color of the sky is a bright cobalt blue with white paisley designs.

Ok so today I got back from up north.  Was invited to spend the weekend at the resort with Crystal’s family.  That was a lot of fun.  But to that a lil later.

I found out some of my heritage on my Da’s side of the family.  This is some of what I found out.

  • My family didn’t start coming to America until about 1870-80.
  • We had a different name while in Norway.  Likness is actually the town ship that that branch was from and they adopted it when they came here.
  • One branch of the people that make up the Likness family is from Southern Norway, right around Oslo.  And the other branch is from North of the Artic circle. The southern branch was mainly farmers and the northern branch were fisherman that lived on the islands.
  • I am related to some of the old natives of Norway/Sweden.  They are the nomadic people.  Sometimes called the Rain-deer people, they refer to themselves as the Sami (means “people” in their native language).
  • They are only 8-10 generations form me and when you think about it that isn’t that far.  I am the fourth generation of my family as it stands right now.  They were a group of men that were on a whaling trip and a storm blew them off course and onto the lands of the northern branch of my family.  They married into the town and into my fam.

I thought this was all really cool stuff to find out about my family.

This weekend was a lot of fun, but really fast to sum up.  I didn’t do a whole lot…just repeated what I did.

I was invited by Crystal’s family to go with them to Fortune Bay on Lake Vermillion.  It was a lot of fun…though if you don’t like to gamble and golf or fish and can’t find some other way to entertain yourself then it probably would be very bored.  I don’t golf and I have never gambled, so I didn’t plan on that keeping me entertained.  I brought books and music and was set.  They had a pool so I was in that at least once a day and then pretty much the rest of the day I was reading and lounging.  I did go up to the casino and won some money on the slots…I put in a $1 and won $20 back.  I was excited about that.  I tried my hand on the Blackjack table, but the table wasn’t paying out too well for anyone.   So I spent most of weekend either in the pool or curled up/stretched out with my books.  So that was my weekend and it was so nice to just relax and do “nothing.”

Well I guess that is all for the moment.  Hope everyone is doing well.

Blessings.
