Scary Scary Scary

The color of the sky is grey brindle

Ok I had a oh so NOT fun evening.

It was a very long day because my night did not go well and then the events of this evening were not a really good way to end the day.

Last night was insane as I was woken by the neighbors (I am house sitting at the home that I work at for daycare) at 1:30am with the 18 year old pounding on the window, screaming obscenities because she is too damn lazy to carry a key.  (She does this between 1 and 5am almost every night).  Because of the deep sleep interruption I was very groggy when roused by Polie (the dog I am dog-sitting).  He thought something was wrong with me as it was 6am and I wasn't out of bed yet.  Yea that went over really well...getting a large wet nose shoved under the covers and him licking my face.

Then after a crazy day at the daycare, I thought I would have an evening that I could relax...yea right.  Kate and I had been smelling the melting/burning plastic smell all day, but because we couldn't locate it and it really didn't get to bothersome, we put it out of our minds.  Then after I had eaten I noticed I was getting a fumes headache.  I went down stairs to the main floor and the burning plastic smell that we noticed earlier was back and stronger.  I went into the basement, where the daycare is held and noticed it had gotten worse.  Upon coming up the stairs I saw that there was light haze of smoke starting to accumulate.  Seeing that was all that it took to put me into go mode.  I grabbed my keys for the van and my car and a leash for Polie and yelled for him to come.  He heard the urgency in my voice and was right by my side.  I got him out into the drive way and called 911.  That is the first time that I have had to make the call and I hope to high heaven that it is the last.  Two squad cars came first and they decided to call in the fire department.  Within about 10 minutes there were the two squads and three fire trucks in front of the house.  The fire chief also stopped by when he found out it was Walt Filson’s house.  So there I was standing on the driveway of a house that is not mine (whose owners are in Kansas) and scared shittless that something is going to go out of control.

They did figure out the problem though.  The fire fighters did a check through the WHOLE house to see if there were any hot spots in the wall and when they couldn't find any, they looked to the air conditioner.  That is where the problem was.  The "mother board" for the air conditioner had a short in it and it melted it.  In doing this parts of the machine kept running and other did not.  The company came out right after to fix it...I guess when you get a call from the fire department with them telling you that a faulting piece nearly started a fire, there is no messing around.

I called Anna and Walt (my second mom and dad and the owners of the house) and told them what happened and what all came out of the the guys being here to fix the air conditioner.  They found out about what was going on in the first place because of something totally different.  It is amazing how fast information can be passed around.

I am fine, but wound as tight as a top so tomorrow morning is going to be interesting.  Kate was here as soon as she could be and because of that I was not a total basket case.  She was able to help answer some of the questions that they needed answering.  I told her that tomorrow if I am a lil out of it, I have a perfectly good reason for it.
