Brazil Mission Trip 2006
July 21-30
Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding
Proverbs 3:5
Preparation
The Wednesday before the trip we had a meeting for everyone going at the Lighthouse. We started off by having dinner that was cooked by some members of our church who are Brazillian. The food wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t exactly what I was used to either. We went over some last minute preparations and final conformations on what tools we had to bring with us. At the end of the meeting we received a team covenant with a list of actions we were all going to take in order to insure that this trip was going to be good. We all signed twenty pieces of paper and I even signed myself as Daffy Duck on one of them. This was going to be a fun trip.
There were plenty of things to do since I had procrastinated all summer about trying to get the things I needed. This called for a trip to the manliest department store ever: Wal-Mart.
Before arriving at Wal-Mart, my mom and I went to Chick-fil-A. I had two chicken sandwiches and my mom enjoyed a delicious chocolate milkshake. We arrived in Wal-Mart’s parking lot and I recognized Tim DuBois’s car just a couple spaces away from my mom’s. I entered Wal-Mart and was trying to locate Tim while finding the items that I needed for Brazil. My list looked a little something like this:
· Bug Spray (at least 75% DEET)
· Sleeping bag
· Rain Jacket
· Beef Jerky
· Mattress cover
· Underwear
· Sun Glasses
· Gatorade
· Hack Saw and Blades
· Pepto-Bismol
· Toothbrush
· Pop Tarts
· Suitcase
I found all of the items I needed and even ran into Marc Bentz by the mattress covers. It seemed as if I was ready to go to Brazil that night.
