I grew up listening to Master of Puppets, Rust in Peace, Cowboys from Hell, Reign in Blood, and other metal albums before starting to listen to rap/hip hop early on in high school, so I'm glad to see people are finally starting to fuse the two genres together effectively. I'm not talking about shit like Kid Rock or Limp Bizkit, all of that "Nu Metal" was complete crap. The Linkin Park/Jay-Z Collision Course album is surprisingly good, and now Lil Jon is sampling famous metal songs and the results are encouraging.
The first time I heard Trick Daddy's Let's Go I didn't really know what to think, but after a few listens I started to really like it. Most people should know this, especially those that read this journal, but that song samples Crazy Train. After that I heard Lil Jon's Don't Fuck With Me, which samples Reign in Blood, the title track from the seminal Slayer classic. It's also the last song I thought would ever be sampled, but Lil Jon does a good job of taking the power and energy of metal and turning it into an intense track. When I see him jumping around on stage and in his music videos, I swear he looks like he's retarded, but I bet he's actually some genius who was some band nerd in high school that graduated valedictorian of his class.
Plus, how could you hate a song with the lyrics:
I've been out all day, all I want is a beer,
Now here your ass comes, with bullshit in my ear.
Bitch back the fuck up and let me smoke my weed,
Motherfuck you bitch, stop screaming at me!
