Life As We Know it, is About to Change

For all intents and purposes, school is over for the year, and it's time for summer vacation.  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, the kids have finals at the high school.  Because she did well on her Sophomore Testing, Beth was automatically exempt from finals.  Cory's grades are good enough that he's exempt too.  I have kind of mixed feelings about the whole being exempt from finals thing, but that's how the school does it.  It's something that will hopefully make the kids work harder and have better attendance.  Even if they have all A's, they can't be exempt if they are absent more than 3 days or something like that.  Even when they're exempt, they still have to take three finals.   Some of those are required by the teachers.  I guess all the teachers don't go along with exempting students from exams, and the kids can't be exempt unless the teacher signs off on their exam sheet, and gets a parental signature, too.  I guess I could've refused to sign and made them take all their exams - but then they'd really hate me!

Beth ended up with one exam each day, so I'm nice and let her drive to school.  That way she's not stuck at school all day with nothing to do. If that was the case, then she might as well go ahead and take all her exams.  But since she can drive, and I don't have to take her and pick her up, it works out ok.  She didn't have to go until 10 this morning, because her exam was at 10:30.  Tomorrow she has to be there at 8:45, and Cory has all three of his exams tomorrow, so he'll go with her.  Today he didn't have to go anywhere, but he does have to finish up his Language Arts exam - it's a take-home exam that he just has to turn in tomorrow, then the class is watching a movie.  But they have to be there for it.  Then he's got Band, where they will mostly be getting and playing their marching music for next year, and World History.  After that, he's done, which is actually a good thing because he starts summer school next Monday.  If he had to go to school until Wednesday, then he would actually only get two days off school before starting summer school.

Summer school won't be bad, though.  He has Drivers Ed. (classroom) from 7:45-9:45, then he's got the rest of the day.  Someone will have to pick him up, but I'm hoping to share rides with at least the parents of one other boy in his class.  We'll have to wait and see who else is taking the class.  Also this summer, Cory plans to do some volunteering at the library, at least on the days of the Summer Reading Program activities.  I know our children's librarian will appreciate his help!  Then we'll have to find some  other things to keep him busy.

Beth is hoping to get a job for the summer and hopefully one she can keep for the school year.  She picked up several applications a while back, but hasn't turned any of them in yet, but as soon as school is over, she can get to that.  Hopefully everyone won't be so busy that we can't still do some fun stuff like go to the beach, go to the movies, and maybe go hiking.  I'd love someone to go hiking with me.  Beth and I used to have so much fun running around the trails.  I might be able to talk Cory into it by telling him about all the cool pictures he'll be able to take!

Theme for the summer:
Proverbs 10:5 (NLT) A wise youth works hard all summer; a youth who sleeps away the hour of opportunity brings shame;

I guess that means no sleeping in.  Time to get up and accomplish something!
