The
Park West Art Gallery, based in Southfield, Michigan, is home to the largest collection of fine art in the world. Who could have guessed - Michigan? I would have expected America's number one art dealer to be located somewhere other than Michigan.
Not only do they have this great collection of art on display at the gallery, they also conduct art auctions all over the United States and Canada, and their affiliate company, Park West at Sea, conducts cruise ship art auctions around the world. I admit, those cruise ship auctions interest me, and not just for the art.
I really don't know anything about fine art. I can look at art, and either I like it or I don't, but I really don't understand why. I have been browsing the website for the Park West Art Gallery, and I've found some art I like, as well as some I don't. You can browse selections from the collection, all organized by artist. Since I really don't know what I'm looking for, I just started randomly picking artist names and then clicking on the titles that sounded interesting. I probably should have started with the artist biographies. Each biography gives some background information about the artist, like where they were born and how they got interested in art. The part that ought to really help me is that each biography also includes some general information about the style or technique the artist specializes in.
