THIS SHOW IS MY LIFE BLOOD. I might actually like it better than Janiben, which is sacrilege, but this show is beyond hilarious.
I was concerned that it would be a forced/gimmicky kind of humor like some Johnny's shows, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that there is a bit more freedom and spontaneity than I had anticipated. The staff-san really know how to utilize Kanjani's natural comedic abilities & bring out the best in them. I think you hit it on the dot about the understated aspect of Chronicles, I think that's the key to why it's so amazing.
Arguably my favorite part is seeing Kanjani's member interactions. Fooling around and acting chummy, sadistically messing with each other. The third episode with the sudden dodgeball had me pissing my pants from laughing so hard. I actually hurt myself because I was flailing my arms while laughing & my hand smacked the desk.
A kind soul subbed the first episode, but I hope the other ones get subbed as well.
I can't believe that I live in this era of Eito fandom where they're airing both Chronicle & KanJam. I get two distinct sides of Kanjani, off-kilter comedy & band music, and both of these strengths are being utilized so successfully. I'm so grateful. I want to kiss all of the staff-san.

I like Chronicle better than Janiben, and I don't even feel bad about it. It's a concentrated version of everything I enjoy about Janiben (member interaction, physical comedy I can understand with my negligible Japanese skills, random challenges/topics) minus what I can live without (mostly the last half hour of Janiben: ranking games). Then again, I have to admit that Janiben never was a clear favorite for me. Can!Jani and Kanpani always were serious contenders. But after three episodes of Chronicle and previews for the fourth, I'd say Janiben, Can!Jani and Kanpani are now reduced to fighting over which show gets second place in my "Favourite Kanjani8 Shows Of All Time Ranking". XD
I liked the first episode of Chronicle already, but it was nothing compared to 002 and 003. Kanjani in public have to hold back but Kanjani on their own? Roughhousing, overdramatic flailing, senseless shouting, complex plotting and calling each other on their shit, that's EXACTLY what I'm here for. So, yeah, I get you.
