Hmm I suppose it must have been a sort of...awkward situation for Paul? We all know the bitchfest he had had while Stu had still been alive, so maybe he didn't really know how to behave then. Also, none of us, not even Klaus or Astrid, know what happened when they were alone. Both Klaus and Astrid always seemed slightly cool with Paul, so, you know....

"none of us, not even Klaus or Astrid, know what happened when they were alone."

This is exactly what I think.. in the end no one really knows what happened between four walls. I agree that it must have been akward for Paul.. like, really, really akward.

I can totally understand why Paul kept in the background at that time. I wouldn't pretend to suddenly like someone, and thus feel like a hypocrite, if I openly disliked that person before their death. :/

Absolutely, plus I do think that when Paul heard the news he thought about how bitchy they had been to each other. I'm sure he felt some sort of guilt, but there was not much to do about it then.

Well, he recorded "Run Devil Run" after Linda had died. So he did something to distract himself. :)

I completely agree that Paul was sad but not heartbroken, and /that/ makes a huge difference. I didn't see it from the 'Paul didn't want to be a hypocrite' side. It's true, Paul was not like that, still isn't and that's something that I love about him.

And also, I think seeing John crying over Stu would have been terribly difficult for Paul for many reasons. Like you said, he couldn't really empathize with John's loss but also, and lord if I feel awful for thinking about it, but the jealousy that was there when Stu was alive wasn't magically going to disappear once Stuart died. I'm by no means implying that Paul was jealous because John cried over Stuart, but I do think that it must have been hard for him to see John like that, because what could he say? or do?.. especially if like noted he didn't want to be a hypocrite about it.

Although that's exactly the sentiment expressed in "Baby's in Black."

A few authors have said Paul was present when John fought Stu. We know John blamed himself for Stu's death. I can see John shunning Paul as someone who reminded him of his shame, or even, in some convoluted way, was partly responsible as well.

But is that story true?... I've read that a couple of authors have mentioned this but Paul said it wasn't true.. of course, Paul could have been protecting John.

If I remember correctly, the story goes that it was Paul the one who carried Stu home after the fight.

Personally I think it's true since one author has a source saying John believed he was responsible for Stu's death. That does not mean I think John was correct, though.

Well, if this is true I really can't imagine why would John beat up Stu like that.. was there any reason for that, or anything?...

That does not mean I think John was correct,

Agreed, Stu's death was caused by something else, but one can't blame John for feeling guilty about that. In the end he did love and care about Stu, so..
