Not really a poll poll: cars, and Al Gore's new documentary

Jun 10, 2006 22:23

I've got a 12 year old Honda Accord with 175,000 miles on it. I've kept it maintained and it's been a great car, but:

A: home is a 13 hour interstate drive away and my family is starting to pester me with safety concerns
B: I could see driving a more fuel efficient, environmentally friendly car (I walk to work, but am still in the car a fair amount).

So, for those of you who own cars:

*What do you drive, and do you like it?
*Any thoughts on hybrids? (I've got one friend who adores her Prius. I live in one of the few jurisdictions in the country that has no personal property tax on a hybrid (at least for this year; I expect them to retract that when hybrids become more popular), which is normally over $4 per $100 of car value.)
*If you could buy anything, what would it be (for me, I think the most beautiful car on the road is the Ford Thunderbird, which - alas - ceased production last year)?

As always, thanks for indulging my nosiness. :)

Also, this afternoon, I saw Al Gore's documentary "An Inconvenient Truth". You should read Roger Ebert's review on it, as well as his interview. Then you should see it. It's intelligent, offers scientific evidence to support claims, and (regardless of some of the more negative reviews I've read about it, which are all obviously from people who haven't see the film) I didn't feel that it points political fingers. It's also captivating, terrifying, and - if we recognize the importance of taking immediate action - hopeful.

Really, go see it.

not really a poll poll, an inconvenient truth, al gore, real life, cars
