My Week Away

Wow...so my week away was EXACTLY what I needed.  Joe and I spent the week in Galveston, TX.

Sunday Evening we arrived at our first hotel...yes first hotel we checked back out about 4 hours after checking in...I don't do roaches!  But we spent some time down at the beach first.

Monday morning we hit the beach again.  Let me just say, Joe is HILARIOUS.  He was laughing so much that he kept getting ocean water in his mouth, dispite how disgusting it was, he couldn't stop laughing.  That afternoon we hit Galveston State Park and saw some Egrets and took some nice hikes.

Tuesday we went to Downtown/Historic Galveston.  We started at the Railroad Museum which was fun.  They had all kinds of dinnerware and serving sets from different train companies over the years, model trains, and real train cars that you could get in and see.  Then, we went roaming around checking out the cool buildings.  Then we went to the Peanut Butter Warehouse, which we were led to believe was more of a fudge place....it turned out to be a really awesome thrift store place!  From there we went down to the harbor and hopped a 1 hour bay tour.  After lunch we headed back to the hotel hit the beach and then out to dinner for our anniversary.  The place was kinda a cute local place, but I only thought the food was so-so. =(

Wednesday we went back downtown....we went to the Oil Star Rig...a retired off-shore oil rig and toured that for awhile.  From there we wondered down to the Texas Seaport Museum and toured the "Tall Ship Elissa."  A historic boat that has been restored.  After that we went and watched a film about the 1900 Hurricane that hit the island.  That night when we went to the beach we found jelly-fish out on the beach so decided it was probably smartest not to actually get IN the water!

Thursday we drove up to Houston and went to the Johnson Space Center and hung out there all day.  Now I'm really into the whole space thing...especially the type of vascular biomechanics research that could be done!

Unfortunately, we had to come back today... I already miss the beach.
