where it was apparent that all life wanted to do was fuck you up the ass...really, really hard?
Starting this past Monday, my building implemented a new policy regarding our parking facilities. We've had nearly 200 new people move into the building over the last six months and we've ran out of available parking spaces. This is mainly due to douche-bag leasing agents promising shit loads of perks for new tenants to move in without realizing that we wouldn't have the ability to meet these requirements. As a result, all the parking that has been negotiated in all of the tenant leases falls short of available parking by about 100 spots. To alleviate some of the burden, any tenant that had more parking passes than stipulated in their lease had to relinquish all passes above that number. Needless to say...tenants were not happy. Thankfully, Imperial Parking (who manages our lot) also manages the lot at the Westin Prince Hotel accross the street so we were able to make arrangements to transfer monthly parking over there for the same rate that we charge at our building.
So...because of limited parking, we had to suspend the paid visitor parking in our lot. We now have an area of 10 spaces blocked off for visitor parking which we now offer free of charge, but only allows a 2-hour limit. I am now responsible for registering all visitors when they come into the building and enforcing the 2-hour limit. This involves checking the area frequently and chalking tires to monitor the time. Once we finally get the appropriate signage in the area, I will also be responsible for issuing parking tickets to people in violation of the imposed time restriction.
To make matters worse, the Scotiabank in my building has a separate customer parking area with a 30-minute limit for parking. Even though the parking area has a gate, people still manage to get into the area and take up customer parking spots for several hours. The bank manager constantly bitches at me about non-customers parking in their spaces even though it is the bank staff that control the access to their parking area. Regardless, the bank manager bitched to my manager and now I have to monitor their parking as well. I issued 3 tickets this week.
So that's been most of my week.
Then I get to work this morning and find out that the building owners and managers are trying to determine how often our parking lot is filled to capacity and if not, how many spots are vacant at any given time (or some bullshit like that). So starting at 8:30 this morning, I was required to count how many vacant spots were in our main surface lot. While this doesn't seem like too big a deal, they expected me to do it every fifteen minutes!!! And I don't mean 15 minutes from the time I finish each count. I mean at 8:30, then 8:45, then 9:00, 9:15, 9:30 and so on, for the whole fucking day. With the exception of my lunch, I don't think I sat down for more than 20 minutes total the whole fucking day. Thankfully, the lot count will not be a permanent duty but I still have to do it every day next week.
Then I receive the "coup de grace" (sp?). My manager tells me of a considered partial solution to our parking woes. The owners are talking of adding a double row of tandem parking at the south end of our parking lot. The only problem lies with when the inner row wants to leave before the outer row. There has to be some system in place to allow for cars to be moved. The proposed solution? Leave keys with security so that when people need to move, security can move the outside car out of the way and then park where the other car was once it leaves (if you can understand that). Another problem? I only have my G1. So unless I can find the time and the money to get my G2 before they implement this plan of action, I could end up being tossed from this site. This isn't paranoia folks, this is what I was told.
My site is a fixed post. My job requirements are to maintain a presence at the security desk. Direct customers and tenants with questions and complaints. Answer phones. Respond to emergency situations. Nowhere in my job description was I told about having to drive anywhere. Call me crazy, but I don't think that I can be removed from a site due to the fact that I don't have something that I was never required to have in the first place.
I don't know for certain but it's definitely something I'm going to be looking into very closely next week.
I am not happy today. I needed to vent.
