Can't you connect the two computers to be on the same network so that you can copy directly without using an external drive?

Alternatively, if you can remove the hard drive from the old machine, it's $20 to get an IDE/SATA-to-USB converter to make that drive into an external drive with you can then connect to the laptop in order to copy the .pst file directly.

is there a way to set up a new laptop to access an old omputer like it was an external drive without the IDE?

nope, this computer never really seemed to like the network (no one could find me even though i set it up so they could use my printer).

But can your computer see other computers? That's all that's needed.

my new laptop can see other NEW computers
my desktop cannot be seen nor can it see (poor blind old thing)
