i haven't used much of this "post" function of livejournal in long enough that few have thought me for dead, or overseas travelling. that itself would be sad if it weren't that it's even sadder i could be so teathered to chipboard technology that the non-use of it would consider me unliving ( Read more... )

because the suburbs are full of kids who think they are the shit and have something to rebel against when really they are sitting on daddy's knee.

yes you can. it can't be mommy and daddy's home in markham. but you can live somewhere other than a cardboard box.

why does anyhow who has a home cannot be a punk?
what is it about homelessness that makes one punk, moreover are all "punks" in such poverty they can't afford simple housing?

what is a home?

But why just the suburbs? You'll find more punks in the city. Even then, you cannot define punk, someone can say they are punk but it is as subjective as saying someone is nice. If anything, North America is full of "Punk as fuck" kids who mostly buy "punk" in a store.

And as for the punk's in the suburbs, they have more reason than any other kind to be punks. A major connotation of punk is rebellion, what better situation to be punk in then when you are sitting on daddy's knee, especially when daddy is a CEO at IBM.

what are they rebelling against though? that daddy told them they have to get a new car if they keep crashing their mercedes?
being in the suburbs and saying you're punk means you steal from spencers. meaning some actual punks [who obviously have to be NOT from the suburbs] should come along and beat the fuck out of you for saying you're punk. everyone has a Dead Kennedy's T-Shirt these days.

rob, you have somehow just proved my point entirely yet i doubt you realized it. yes there are more punks in the city, "the city" is and always has been the social, political and cultural mecca of any given region. people who are say, "dissatisfited" with how things are done can act on it at the source. they have a reason to fight. a reason to hate. a reason to rebel. The means are there and they're directly affected by them, so why the hell not ( ... )

the suburbs are where i am most familliar with. i've grown up in two seperate suburbs and it's usually a good idea to write what you believe you know about.

doing a cross sub-cultural compairison between urban and suburban, the strife within suburbs is non-apparent, much less talked about. it's never mentioned less it begets the status quo. we are the privilaged beneath the privilaged 5%, and yet most believe we know the pain of others less fortunate because we read about them.

it's an implicit caste.
