038. “i want you to stay forever.” [1/100 SuJu Challenge]
when kibum says he wants to go for an acting career, leeteuk doesn’t hesitate to tell him that he can and that everybody will support him. their relationship is built like a card tower, stacked so high and so pretty, and with one false step, it all comes crashing down.
when kibum leaves and is gone from album promotion activities, leeteuk winces because of the empty spaces in his family of thirteen. it’s like letting go of one of his own children, a piece of his heart ripped away, and leeteuk tries his best to wish kibum the best.
“i wish you didn’t have to go.” leeteuk says to kibum over the phone like a mother tells her child that has gone away to college.
kibum chuckles breathlessly - he’s so, so tired, leeteuk thinks - and he says, “hyung, it’s not easy for anybody.”
leeteuk looks up when a hand is waved in his face, and he sees donghae motioning him to get ready for their bonamana music core performance, and a sigh escapes his lips.
“we gotta go, kibum-ah.”
“good luck with your performance, hyung.”
leeteuk reluctantly hangs up and looks at his phone before leaving. and now he understands why his mom had cried when he told her that he got into sm entertainment, and how stupid he had been to say he’d be okay because he’s everything but that.

kibum almost misses donghae’s wholehearted love and the light laughter that seems a million miles away, and the warmth donghae would give him during the cold winter seoul nights when he’s gone away. some days, he’s tempted to call just to ask how donghae’s doing, but he stops himself halfway and thinks that it’s not him.
kibum walks out, into the darkness that envelopes his balcony softly, and ignores the harsh contrast of streetlights in the early hours of morning. he looks up, and remembers the night that donghae sat on the roof with him and connected all the stars together with his finger.
it takes kibum almost all of his effort to fall asleep, dreaming of donghae’s smile against his lips.
the next time they see each other, they sit next to each other in the dark with no words spoken, but with the feeling that something’s missing. he sees donghae’s face illuminated by the sparkler in his hand and donghae’s fast hand movements to write out 사랑해 with the light passing through his fingers.
when kibum moves in to kiss donghae, he thinks that nothing is as bright as donghae, because he still glows even long after the sparklers go out.
