Crunchtime for laptop purchase. I MUST have a laptop within the next two weeks (yes, despite looking for well over three months I still haven't bought one).

So;
12- 13 inch monitor.
3+ hours of battery life (whilst still being able to clearly read the screen)
Under 2.5kg and preferably under 2.2kg with a 6 cell battery or higher
Processor capable of

It's the screen size that's the killer: smaller, and you could go for a netbook with a usb DVD drive; larger, and you could go for a pretty decent laptop. Otherwise, you're looking at the sub-notebook range, which tends to be more expensive than it should be.

Uh, I'm not being helpful at all, really. Sorry about that. I think your best bet is probably just to go out one day and buy something. You'll most likely end up compromising on at least one of your requirements, but at least you'll have something.

They have this thing in the macstore in Sydney where you can book an hour appointment with the sales staff. Thought that would be good for understanding how to set up windows on mac and all my mac/windows related concerns. And discounts. And battery life.

Shame no other laptop producers are offering something similar.

They do something similar in the Apple store here. And it's insanely popular - I've been there twice and I still haven't managed to get them to test and replace my iPod battery.

I guess it's a bit more difficult for other manufacturers, because they sell through third parties. Otherwise, you could walk into the HP Store or the Toshiba Store and get the same deal.

But yes - 'tis a good idea. Book now. :D
