Are you taking financials into consideration, or just ability to write/direct interesting films and TV shows?

Mostly, I'm talking mass market potential (note: not a bad thing), but I feel it works in more than one aspect.

Heh, I was making personal taste calls (which also work, but only for me) Joss Wheden is as much better than JJ Abrams as Kevin Smith is than Judd Apatow.

On the other hand, Apatow's stories are just as coherent as Kevin Smith's. Of course, I don't know JJ Abrams as much because I gave up on him during Felicity...

I dunno, Joss in recent times has been a little bleh. Lemme make a timeline, someone else can fill in if the spots all match ( ... )

Well, really it was more of a comparison of two duos, since it reads "Joss is to JJ as Kevin Smith is to Judd Apatow".

They've all been successful, but Joss and Kevin Smith on a much smaller scale, but with (I feel) much more rabid fanbases. It wasn't really comparing Joss to JJ at all, except in how their relative level of achievement kind of mirror's KS and JA's.

That said, if you're going to count movies, you have to count Toy Story (where he got an Oscar nom) and Titan AE, as well as JJ's Regarding Henry.

And if you're going to count JJ's single episode of Avatar, you have to count Joss's 4 episodes of Roseanne.

I also feel you have to count Dr. Horrible, somehow.

JJ also exec produced 'Six Degrees' which was pretty crap, and 'What About Brian' which was okay for about a season.

Ah, I didn't understand the question. But yeah, I just thought it was funny that he did avatar, more than anything. I haven't seen all of JJ's shows, which might speak to my personal tastes. I guess we should just go with their mainstream stuff that they had a major influence on ( ... )
