Jumping Hoops and "Fair Treatment"

Aug 10, 2007 15:57

So I finished my interviews up on Monday, not with the person who I thought I was told I would interview with, but that wasn't a big deal. For the record, that was the third time I'd been in. Thursday - application, asked to come back Friday for the interviews. Friday - Did two interviews, asked to come back Monday to interview with the Hiring Manager. Monday - Ask for interview with Hiring Manager, interview with someone else instead, told I'd hear back "by the end of the week." Well, it's 4pm on Friday. I think I can qualify it as "end of the week." Have I heard anything? Nope. Nada.

During the second interview on Friday, I was asked what I would expect as an employee. My answer? "To be treated fairly." They haven't exactly done a great job doing that thus far. I went in three different days for what I know can be a single day process. I interviewed with someone different than who I was told I would interview with. I'd call both of those jumping through hoops. And what have I received in return? A "time-line" that has not been upheld at several junctures. The first was the Monday interview where I wasn't interviewed by who I would interview with (that was after I asked about the time-line on Friday when they said the Hiring Manager had the day off so I had to go back Monday to interview with him). Speaking of which, why did it matter he had the day off IF I DIDN'T INTERVIEW WITH HIM!?

*pauses for a breath*

Ok, I'm better for the moment. The second flaw in the time-line is the "end of the week" garbage that hasn't held up. Oh sure, I could hear from them still this evening or sometime tomorrow, but, honestly, "end of the week" means 3pm Friday according to the banks. And everything revolves around the banks because they control our money. Any business done after 3pm Friday counts as having been done on Monday at 8am.

In semi-related but happier news, I've been approached about *possible* short-term employment back at the Arts office working in the library. I have told them I'm interested, and am hoping something comes through soon to do that. To be honest, I'll get paid a better hourly wage there. I'm also hoping I can turn it into something long-term, because as much as I may gripe about the time I spent there, it's a great place to further my career and I really did enjoy working there in the end. Everyone has problems with their employers. It's a fact of life. Even if you work for yourself, your boss probably asks you to work too hard :-)

Hopefully more positive news will be following soon. We'll see.
