summary: “You know Seunghyun, you are actually a lucky guy. It's hard, complex, difficult and painful, holding a girlfriend pleased. I wasted a whole weekend being forced to watch that crap. Yet I had to find out my best friend is either a freak or a girl. Don't you ever dare to remember me again of the worst hours of my life!”
[Sunday 13.40]
metro station near Hand River
Meanwhile, about 13 minutes away from Nichkhun’s apartment.
Seunghyun starred sullen on his watch as if it was the needle of his scale.
Waiting gave him this unwanted feeling of being displaced therefore he hated it. Especially if the meeting place was as public as the road next to the metro station he stayed at right now.
All kinds of different people are passing by, tall, small, rich, poor even some foreigners but none of them were chubby and all far from being fat. It was uncomfortable but to be abandoned from his so called best friend was the worst. As if his current situation wasn’t mortifying enough, people around him had to abuse him even more. There was this sound of a bike bell behind him. Presumably a bad tempered middle aged male who habitable never had enough time and liked to be fulltime stressed. His hobbies might be to wreak his mood on others to spread the discontent on as many people as possible. He was sure there was enough space left to drive around him without any complications. But where would be the fun if he couldn’t humiliate the fat boy? Let him feel even more summoned like a stranded baby whale.
Seunghyun decided to ignore this cruelty since he wasn’t willing to give this stranger the joy he must feel while bullying. His attempt failed because the rude cyclist just started a downright ping concert to get the chubby boy's attention.
Seunghyun was usually a shy and very calm person but brazen people like this one made him boiling out of anger. Not that he searched the face-off with that baddie, but he felt like this person deserved to be called off. Encouraging himself to be as brave as necessary before he turned around to furiously glare at the strangely familiar face.
Seunghyun couldn’t prevent the surprised “You?!” slipping over his tongue. Of all people on earth he didn’t anticipate him of being his tormentor. But paradoxical there weren’t any others who matched as perfect as him. Except for the middle aged part, but Junhyung didn't need to know about those thoughts.
“Yah! You made me run all the way 'til here saying it's urgent! Just to let me wait and to horrify me?” As much as Seunghyun tried to sound at least a little enraged he just couldn’t be really mad at Junhyung.
“You actually run? It’s a pity I've missed that!” Junhyung grinned at him, obviously not feeling sorry at all before he proudly continued.
“Well, let's call it a warm-up!”
“Warm-up for what?”
“You are going to jog along the Han River.”
Junhyung coolly answered as if it was as self-evident as breathing.
“You do know that you don’t need a bike for jogging, don’t you?”
“I said you are going to jog, not we are. And especially not I am.”
“Junhyung are you serious?”
“I am always deadly serious.”
In antipode to his words, Junhyung had a sheepish smirk plastered in his face.
“That’s so ridiculous, no wait you are ridiculous!”
“Why, I'm not riding an e-bicycle, right?!”
“I know you, if you could you probably would have shown up with one, Mr Beer belly!”
“Exactly~!
For our friendships’ sake let my belly out of this, it’s gonna be dirty if not.”
“I knew it, you're way too transparent!”
Junhyung just laughed it off.
“But your dad got an e-bicycle, you could have asked him.”
“He does but no way. I mean I thought about it, but remember when I borrowed his cam last week.” Junhyung paused until he spotted the soft nod as answer.
“Well let’s just say the cam is fucked up now and he is still miffed about it.”
Finally it was Seunghyun’s turn to laugh.
“Wait, does that mean when you called me Friday night it was because of the camera you broke?”
“Yapp, I called you because I was drunk and desperate. Now could we change the focus on you? Why aren’t you moving yet?”
“No we can’t!”
Seunghyun almost whined before he begged for more information’s.
“It’s the first time that it’s your ass that got into trouble, not mine. I won’t do anything until I know everything”
“Okay, deal! If you run till the first bridge, which is about 20 minutes from here, I'll tell you everything up to the smallest detail.”
Seunghyun’s face lighted up.
He could actually really accomplish that; he would just walk slowly if necessary. Getting something to know which could be used against his best friend, in cases of emergency like today, was too good to let the chance slide off.
There was one thing Seunghyun didn’t reckon. Junhyung was a heartless best friend after all and as soon as Seunghyun would loose on speed, Junhyung rung the bell on his bike. It was not only annoying but also embarrassing. Seunghyun thought he was conspicuous enough without the need of an attention seeking background sound. It must be quite entertaining to watch a boy with his body mass in sportswear trying to run. He pictured Junhyung in something like a rickshaw with a cocktail in one hand and a whip to hurry him in the other. Seunghyun would be of course the poor guy who had to pull him across the city. Luckily the reality was that Junhyung only rushed him but at least pedalled on his own.
Why did Junhyung have to choose this crowded place anyway? Too many couples, elderly and also students lingered around. Too much attention from stranger’s who only saw a hunted hippo in him. The only positive part of being on the stream was the cool air that floated around the deep blue water. But that was all of it.
“Do you really need to do that?”
“Do what?”
Junhyung asked innocently while stroking the bell in ostentation, waiting for the next time to use.
“Don’t act stupid! The chiming thing you are touching right now!”
“Of course, else you wouldn’t run and if you don’t run you could see things like - Oh Ice cream - would you mind if I buy some?”
“Where?”
Incidentally he really could deal with ice cream right now beyond that it was the perfect reason for a first break.
“Nowhere, I'm kidding.”
Junhyung destructively destroyed all his hopes. He felt as crestfallen as a child who accidentally dropped his scoops.
“If running doesn’t kill me it will be you ….”
“Can you even call that running? I wonder how you would call crawling than.”
What had he done in his previous live to deserve a friend like this?
“Meany!”
Ping, ping, ping!
“Stop it, people are starring at us!”
This time Seunghyun really was discomposed because there was a young couple who just turned around and observed him too closely for his liking.
“You're just becoming slower coz you’re talking too much! Focus on running and people wouldn’t have the time to stare at you!”
“I can’t you are distracting and I hate this chinking noise.”
“Hate is a wonderful motivation to keep going! But if you hate it that much, I got a better suggest for you. I will scream Jiyong, whenever you start to lumber. Of course there is the possibility that the wrong person may hear me, but if you prefer this I-“
“-I got it! Bingle as much as you want; I love bingeling!”
Seunghyun gave in frustrated.
“Does the word “bingle” even exist? Never heard it before.”
“Probably not but I like it so let’s held it. I just have to compose a song with the title ‘bingle bingle’ and than the word will be known and maybe even become famous. You are lucky that the word itself sounds too cute to make a horror story about you out of it.”
“I will “bingle” your ass if you keep loosing tempo because of your nonsense babbling.”
In reality, Junhyung had chosen the Han River because he thought it was beautiful. There was a soft breeze which cooled the hot city air down. The alley along the flow was leafy since they made some green areas in between. It was perfect for jogging since, except bikes, heavy traffic wasn’t allowed. The Han River was a meeting spot for almost every outdoor activity. Junhyung hoped they would see some other dieting people which may had encouraged Seunghyun. But the best part of being here was the superior view at the plenty of hot chicks, sun bathing on the small green spots.
In his eyes this was the perfect place to slim down, but he was proven to be wrong in not even three minutes after.
“I - need - a - break!”
He didn’t get an answer from Junhyung directly but a ping!
“Seriously man! I - need - a - br-“
Seunghyun thought about if he just should collapse here on the ground to make Junhyung feel guilty. But then he remembered that Junhyung never blamed himself for anything 'coz he still was heartless.
“You didn’t even run straight for five minutes and asking already for a break.
I know where this leads, to the break up of your new diet and directly into a donut shop so you’re not allowed!”
“But - can’t - breath -“
“You would be breathing just perfectly if you'd quit complaining already!”
Junhyung scolded him and little did Seunghyun know that he was right.
Seunghyun thought about many things while he tried to force his body to move further. Nothing was really palpable and the ideas in his mind just passed by like insects in the air.
Wait, did he actually just choke a fly? It explained the pain in his burning lungs and the sudden impulse to cough. Or maybe it was just the lack of oxygen.
Seunghyun already felt so drained that he was franticly searching for something supportive. Soon he found himself mesmerized by Junhyung's glittery neck. His skin was covered with tiny sweat pearls which were sparkling mysteriously in the sunlight. There was an odd feeling of happiness that he finally found the proof for his silly assumption. Bemused, he carefully gripped at the carrier to hold on to the pace Junhyung had set. He had the high hopes it would help him to endure but his plan wasn’t as great as he thought. Since he found himself to be dragged, and this was far away from the desired assistance he had sought for.
Seunghyun’s endurance was depleted and he was determined to find an acceptable reason for a break. When he was about to give up he finally spotted something interesting. Clenching on the carrier he abruptly stopped which made Junhyung almost fall over.
“Isn’t that Chansung over there?” he announced while pointing at the cause of the almost accident. He never felt that happy to see Chansung. Usually Jiyong’s best friend meant conflicts and trouble. Seunghyun tried hard not to bump into him while Chansung in contrary drabbled to be in his way. The two of them never made a secret that none of them liked each other and everyone except Jiyong was aware of that fact.
Chansung sat on the stairs down to the water, facing the river. It was different to see him on his own like this, he looked less powerful rather depressed and it was heartbreaking to see. But not for Seunghyun, he was gloating because in his point of few it meant that Jiyong and Chansung must have had a fight. With the ulterior motive of skipping training and to satisfy his curiosity he had to comfort him to get to know what had happened.
In the best case Chansung would even tell him discreetly more about Yongguk since Seunghyun knew nothing about the new guy, except that he was his cockblocker.
“I can’t spot Jiyong. So who cares about him?”
Junhyung was about to drive off when he felt Seunghyun’s hand squeezing softly his shoulder while he almost pleaded.
“I care. He looks down right? So he may need someone to cheer him up.”
“And that one is you?”
Junhyung asked nonchalant.
Seunghyun nodded carefully to hide his excitement.
“He didn’t care a shit about you. Why should you?”
“He might change his mind and if he does he will tell Jiyong good things about me. And more important he could even entrust me something about Jiyong.”
“Probably not.”
“Why not?”
“It’s just I have the feeling that something else is arranged behind your heroic behaviour. You aren’t trying to skip your training with me, are you?”
Damn to that freaking vampire gene. Why does Junhyung always know everything?
“Junhyung did you just jump out of twilight coz I could imagine you perfectly in there.”
Junhyung just raised a brow of disapproval and crossed his arms in front of his chest.
“You know Seunghyun, you are actually a lucky guy. It's hard, complex, difficult and painful, holding a girlfriend pleased. I wasted a whole weekend being forced to watch that crap. Yet I had to find out my best friend is either a freak or a girl. Don't you ever dare to remember me again of the worst hours of my life!”
“Okay, but seriously Junie-ah. This may be a chance for me. Let me try this out.”
“Knock your self out then!”
Junhyung wasn’t happy neither angry, more likely amused. His day would become more interesting than he suggested.
