Big Bang Art ~ Away From Here by Skullgirl013
Okay, so I claimed this because I already knew it was amazing because I was its beta. Well, at that point I was Miss Rant-At-Me-About-Misbehaving-Characters. But later on the beta'ing came. However, I did not expect (until later) the emotional wreck it would make me. Good god.
Anyway, I have made... three mixes; one for Whiz, one for Mara and one for both of them. I genuinely recommend listening to "Remains" by Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon whilst reading the epilogue (and then going back to read the prologue too).
I also made a couple of wallpapers (three sizes), and some dividers, which will be included below.
I'm so happy I got to make art for such an awesome story ♥ even if I did fail at art for others. *guilt face*

Just before they enter the house, he takes one look, back at the twinkling stars, towards a star that he has watched before, for years and years.
To the place where an opportunity of his own faded into dust.

“Sorry, Mar-Mar! I’m just proud of you! No one beats this boss level!” he tells her, proudly.
“Don’t be silly, plenty of people beat that boss level, it’s positively easy,” she pauses. “And what have a told you about that nickname?”
“That I’m not to use it under any circumstances. It’s not big and it’s not clever,” he recites dutifully.
“Good boy.”

“Ankora’s?” Whiz offers as they walk. “My treat.”
Mara beams at him. “You know me so well, Whiz.”

Whiz is asleep, curled up under the blankets, with no trace of a book or a drink or anything that usually keeps him up until the wee hours of the morning. “Oh...” she says, softly, as though he could hear her. “I’ll just be, going then.”
She watches him sleeping peacefully for a moment more before shutting the door and slumping away to the kitchen, all her previous excitement gone.
After all, what’s the fun in being excited when your best friend isn’t around to be excited with you?

“You can have her,” Whiz replies, as Mara finishes off her banana. “In fact; go right ahead!”

Neither of them speak again, and Mara wonders if they ever will again.

I started to see you clearly today,

“If all this is not good enough for you - if I’m not good enough for you, even though, god I thought I could have been good enough, if you’d just given me a chance - then maybe you should just leave.”
He gives a little laugh, and it sounds hollow, cold and not like Whiz at all and she doesn’t have time to process anything he just said. “Not that I imagine you’ll be hanging around for long anyway.”

Mara jogs down the corridor, casual as she ever is, dodging swiftly past people as though nothing is out of the ordinary, however there’s a tightening of her shoulders that displays the feeling of anxiety building in her chest... But it’s not like anyone would notice that... no one except...

05. Sleeping With the Light On - Busted
I feel her slipping through my fingers,
Now she's gone,
I'm sleeping with the light on,
And shocks went through my veins now,
That she's gone,
I'm sleeping with the light on.
His eyes are older too; that crystal blue hardened slightly, made into something crisper, stronger than before, devoid of the innocence it once possessed. His limbs are stronger, harder and more solid than before, his chest broader and his thighs harder.
This man is not the boy who left.
05. Painting Flowers - All Time Low
When I wake up,
The dream isn't done,
I wanna see your face I know I made it home,
If nothing is true,
What more can I do?
I'm still painting flowers for you...
The two people come to stand beside her bed, and she recognises the man, his blonde hair and bright eyes, and for a moment she almost mistakes him for someone else, but his hair is too long, hanging around his shoulders, and he smiles at her, asking the nurse to check her vitals.
Carl smiles down at her, bright white teeth gleaming. “Welcome back Miss Knight,” he says to her, the picture of perfect bedside manner. “How are you feeling?”
Mara doesn’t have an answer for that, so she doesn’t say anything at all.
06. Call and Answer - Barenaked Ladies

It's getting to the point,
where I can be myself again,

It's getting to the point where we have almost made amends,

“It’s really you?” she says it almost like it’s a question, burrowed so far into the crook of his shoulder that he almost misses her soft words. She wraps her arms around his waist, holding on tightly.

They say that the further you are from a star, the more likely it is that that star you see is really gone.
Mara doesn’t think she wants to believe that.
She doesn’t think she has any choice.
Because behind those roiling black clouds, sown into the skies beyond is the twinkling stars of a life she left behind.
Of the love she could have had, left, cowering the dark; nothing but a memory now.

Mara blinks. “What?”

Whiz sat on the other side of her, jotting down notes but always looks at bored as her, his bright eyes would glance across at her every so often, and she’d flick a piece of wadded paper at him, just to prove that even though her eyes were closed, she could still see him, and they’d both chuckle under their breaths smiling and-
No. She’s not thinking about him. Not Whiz. Not anymore.

Annie tenses slightly but they don’t mention why that is. “What did you tell them?”
“That I didn’t want to leave Earth,” he says it so matter-of-factly, and, even though it’s true, it doesn’t change the flicker in his heart, like an old war wound, something he can’t deny, an old ache, purely in his mind, but still there.
“Not for anything.”
