Surprise Party, Vanderhoef Style!
Today in American Studies 157 (Animals in American Culture) Professor Jay Mechling received some sort of Outstanding Teacher award which included a prize of $30,000 (the largest cash prize awarded for teaching in the U.S.). A camera crew complete with bright back-lights had been present since the beginning of lecture "for footage of media being used in the classroom." Tricky Larry. Last week, there was a photographer present throughout lecture "for UCD course catalog pictures." Doubtful. Halfway through lecture Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef, his entourage, and some paparazzi (two additional cameramen and a bunch of photographers) burst in with a colossal cake. Then various people, including Larry, gave some speeches of congratulations and everyone chowed down. Larry then went around talking to some students, including myself. Chancellor Larry, possesing mad intuition, asked me the question I've been asking myself lately, "Why aren't you going to Vet School?" Also a reporter from the Davis Enterprise asked me a couple questions about Mechling, which was kind of strange for me considering I've only had him as a professor for three or so lectures.

Completely Unrelated: Due to "popular" demand, the pink tips are back. Right now they are a light-ish cotton candy pink, soon they will be amplified to a hot hot pink. I figure this is probably one of my last chances to have my hair a crazy color, unless I end up working somewhere that doesn't really care about my hair color and the like.
