I have adopted a soldier, I have done it before. The group I get referals from is in dire need of sponsors. They just sent me a second name as they have had 1800+ soldiers sign up for sponsors. Mostly these people just need pen-pals. Some ask for specific things, some do not. I tend to send carepackages and letters. I have purchased larger items in the past as well, but that is not a requirement.
If you have the time and inclination, please consider helping out. If you belong to a service group, please consider suggesting soldier adoption to them. If you do not want to make that commitment, there is also an address to send get well cards and letters.
