I would really like for hole where my tooth used to be to stop hurting now please. Also for the swelling to go down some more and the stitches to stop doing that weird flappy thing. Also I would have like for the implant to go in when I scheduled it to go in instead of the extracted tooth shattering and making me need a bone graft because that sucks. On the cool side I got to answer the question on whether I would like a human or bovine or synthetic bone and a porcine or bovine membrane. My medgeek side is pretty tickled that I even HAVE these choices. I chose human and porcine, in case anyone is wondering. I hope the person who's bone tissue I'm using wasn't an asshole.
Doug and I are in the final throes of de-Christmasing around here. Things are looking a little sparse! I never wrote about Christmas, I think, but it was pretty good. My in laws were in town for the week, and I was just getting done being sick. Most of Sebastian's photos include snot streaming from his nose. He had a blast with all the family around. He was very hesitant about presents at first, but he um, got over that pretty quickly. I'll probably do a separate post to track our gifts received/given. I know it sounds tacky, but there is a lot of information in lists. I used to love reading estate/farm journals at the historical society, or Williamsburg, or even older ones I've seen clips off. You know where they write down who gave what for which event, or tithes, or shopping lists and so on. Even wish lists are cool. I like to fill in the gaps between the items in my head - try to connect them. It's almost like a slice of time. So I've decided to regularly document the gifting type things so I can look back later and be amazed at the relevance/expense/social paradigm/etc.
Christmas day here was raucous and fun. Dinner ended up being sit-down, which I didn't intend, but was good anyway. The ham was a-frickin-mazing. I love that we're exchanging names for a gift exchange, it's been a lot of fun to see the creativity that can go into it when you only have to focus on one person instead of 9! The biggest hit of the evening, however, what the Pollyanna that we did . I asked everyone who wanted to participate to bring a book or CD. It didn't have to be new, and and it didn't have to be purchased. It was entertaining to see what everyone contributed and what made the rounds the most. There was a lot of laughing. A lot. It was good.
Which leads me to Sebastian's current obsession. He recieved a Mr. Potato Head from his Auntie Kate. He plays with it every day. Mulitiple times a day. He just came up and asked "Mr. Tato mama jockey?" Translation: he wants Mr. Potatohead to ride on his back in the makeshift wrap I made him. I'm thoroughly impressed because I probably would have NEVER gotten him this toy. He's doing tons of fine motor and pretend play and we're using Mr. Potato do do colors and body parts and emotions. We're also using Mr. Potatohead as our flagship "you have to put this away before you can get something else out" toy and he's getting to the point where he's even a bit proactive about putting Mr. Potato away or putting him away without help. If anyone else has any suggestions about similar toy, I'd love to hear it. The versatility seems to be a big hit, and the small but easily manipulated parts. I'm thinking about maybe making him a barn out of a cardboard box to see how he like that sort of business. I'm thinking also that a train/tracks would be pretty perfect by this summer. I'd kinda like to avoid the plastics, though.
Sebastian is also overcoming his apprehensive obsession with babies and baby dolls. He's does physically recoil in their presence as often although he does talk about babies and baby dolls about just as much. He's very interested, but the realistic ones freak him out a bit. I dont' blame him. He finally got to meet one of the many newborns in our social circle. We saw "Tante Erica's baby Bethlehem" and he finally worked up the nerve to tentatively pat the sleeping baby on the head and.... then he was ready for us to leave. :) He hasn't met Baby Maggie yet - she's nearly two months old now, so that should be interesting, and we're looking forward to meeting Baby Ender. Yes. Baby Ender. My best friend from high school looks and acts like your pretty average suburban Navy wife but oh, her geek runs deep. Sebastian was pretty enthralled with the photos of Baby Ender and has named the doll that my friend Angie knitted for him the same. So we have a Baby Ender, too. Also, our Baby Ender is way awesome and I was so excited when Ang offered to make him because I just didn't have the $75 to throw out for a Waldorf doll (that may potentially frighten the bejeebus out of the child) and I was admant that we would not have a plastic, and that it couldn't be too realistic, but not awful cartoonish either. He's about preemie sized, too, so he may get some extra clothes if I find somethine cute at the resale shop.
Okay, that's all I can do now since I'm being begged to go color :)
