My first ever Triathlon! Complete!!!

I was SO nervous. Really anxious about the whole thing and how I'd do... Rach and her bf Ben came for support, and the moment they showed up I almost cried cuz I was so emotional and scared but so relieved they were there. Of course a bit of comic relief was provided and I quickly got over my nerves and stopped psyching myself out.

Look! I have numbers on my arm like a real athlete!

I felt better. Until I got to the swim. For some reason I was in the first seed group and this was BAAAAD. Out of the 250m, I probably only managed about 40m freestyle, 150m breastroke and the rest in survival side-stroke. It was just awful. I was the last in the yellow caps to leave the water, and even the second and third seed groups had caught up and many had over taken me. Very bad.

But I knew this was my weakness... I ran out of the water with a new attitude (one of "at least you didn't DIE out there) and got to the transition area for the bike leg.

I"ve been really pumped about the cycle leg... it's my pet leg because I love to Spin and I do it regularly. I felt really confident this leg would go well. It was to be a 2 lap cycle around the Regatta making 10km. I can happily say I pushed really hard and damnnn it felt SO good to overtake most of the pack. I got into a great position in the first pack and pushed it all the to the end. That cycle definitely made up ALOT of ground. I"m REALLY proud of myself at that effort because I didn't back off during the whole 10km. It was a long push but totally worth it. I LOVED the cycle leg.

Arrived into the transition again and got ready for my run leg. Another leg not so strong, but it isn't too bad. I got my jog on and found most of the other competitors going at the same speed. I just inserted some short walks to manage.

Looking back I probably could have pushed on harder but that's all in hindsight. I made a strong sprint to the finish line to take out the girl infront of me and threw my hands up in the air as if I won the whole damn thing. The crowd cheered at my unexpected finish. It was glorious :)

I'm waiting for my official time to be uploaded to the website with the overall result and my split times too.

I had given myself a goal to complete the event in about an hour - where an hour would have been AMAZING and an hour-fifteen minutes would be been my top end limit. This is my reaction the moment that Rach told me I did the event in UNDER AN HOUR. I am stoked!!!! 50-something minutes. Ohhh yeah!!

I felt great afterwards. I did my hamstrings in a bit on my practice cycle yesterday which hindered my run today but otherwise I feel pretty good!!! Suz met up with us afterwards to all go out for a big breakfast, and just as well cuz after I loaded my bike back in my car I realised my car wouldn't start. Guess which triathlete left her headlights on this morning!! Suz was a lifesaver with a quick jumpstart and off we went. Om nom nom. And it was a NICE day too, the sun came out, it was over 25C out there, really nice - not thunderstormy as the weather predicted haha!

I am looking forward to do another one, I just definitely have to figure out how to improve my swimming abilities. They were FAIL today. But *fistpump* for the cycle leg. Totally awesome. Go me :)
