Another day, another bout of computer woes. I already had an external hard drive die on me earlier this week. So of course on Friday, I had to end up getting tea spilled on my keyboard and fucking it up. I have never played D&D before; I was invited to by a group of acquaintances in college, but one of their girlfriends was the DM and the looks of hate she directed towards all other females who attempted to hang out in her little fiefdom were palpable, so I declined.

Lately, though, the husband-to-be and one of our friends have been wanting to start D&D'ing again, and think I should be the DM. I have NO experience. They say, "You're read Wil Wheaton's posts about running campaigns. You'll do great!" *headdesk*

This is my first time playing D&D (other than a short Call of Cthulhu campaign with some people I didn't know very well). I always wanted to play, but I never knew anyone who did until now. So far it's been lots of fun. I'd really recommend trying it if you have a group of people you know.

Jumping straight into DMing seems a little intimidating though, yeah. Maybe you could try a short campaign with someone else DMing first, so you could get a feel for the game mechanics. And the players, for that matter. If it's anything like our current campaign, the DM's job can be like herding cats when the players have other ideas. Gotta be ready for anything. (Case in point: our last session started as an excursion to kill a few bandits for the reward money, and ended with us killing two of our own party members, blowing up a cave, and then causing ANOTHER explosion that was the equivalent of a giant magical atom bomb. Things obviously did not go according to plan, LOL. Luckily the DM was willing to just sit back and moderate, and let us ( ... )
