So here I am kids...back after what feels like forever.
The last few weeks have been a whirl-wind, I won't lie. I started training at Panera for the Catering Coordinator position, and believe me when I tell you that corporate life and I don't get along. Instead of rolling into work at 2:30 in a Chef Coat and a knife roll slung over my back...I'm finding myself up at ungodly hours of the morning, commuting with all the other crazies on the express way, and wearing clothes that fit the prescribed corporate standard. Is this what growing up is? As you'd probably deduced, I'm still not convinced that this job..this lifestyle is for me...but I'm giving it the good ol' college try, and don't plan to leave without a fight or giving things a fair chance.
On the up-side, after culinary school and a few years of on the job experience, I"m finding the training to be easy...RIDICULOUSLY easy (Do I really need three weeks of training on how to make sandwiches?!), so I guess I should be thanking my lucky stars. Honestly, the largest issues I"ve had have been those blood sugar coping and the fact that I can't smoke while at work. The latter of the two is probably a good thing as I'm hoping to quit in the near future. The blood sugra delema is a result of the BS corporate rule that you go six hours before you can take your 30 minute state sancitoned break...then and only then can you eat or drink. This is a tough adjustment for me because every job I've had for the past ten years has allowed some way for me to keep my blood sugar at a decent level and to stay hydrated. By the time my break rolls around, I'm a mess to say the least.
Aside from that, things are ok. The people that I"ve come to like at the Needham Panera (where my training takes place) will soon be a memory (bummer) as my training was pushed up and I'll be headed to the Stoughton Panera to start my actual job (WOOT!) by the end of this month. Here's to hoping it goes well.
The real downside to this training thing is that I've had NO time (or money) for Little Victory. I know it's only a matter of time until I can get back in the swing of things, and that eventually Panera might actually score me some additional catering jobs if I play my cards right...but for now, I miss LVC...alot. I've had to push back the cooking classes until after the New Year, as I haven't had the time/energy to line up everything to start in September...not to mention school. It looks like it'll be Jan for the cooking classes, but I'm still hoping to run the Thanksgiving To-Go Offer in November. For now, I'm just trying to settle into the new day job with Panera.
I also managed to pick up some Consulting work with the Mediterranean Grill in Attleboro, which should help the money situation along. I'm in the process of revising thier menus and working with their staff on Saturdays to earn a little extra cash. This job is essentially a dream job as I can work from home, and it only requires minimal head-space. Besides, writting menus is fun as hell and the owner of the place is a riot (not to mention the INSANE hourly fee he's paying me to do the work!), so all's good on that front.
There's lots more happening aside from the jobbie-jobs, but I'll save it for another entry.
Until we meet again...
