Like Padarewski and Casals, Rostropovich was a great spokesman for Human Rights. His loyalty got him in trouble, but he never betrayed his friends. His cello playing was never eclipsed, and any time someone discusses the great recording of a concerto, Rostropovich is always one of the names mentioned.
