Ianto Jones’s Primary Assessment of Torchwood Three

The hub was ugly. There was no way around it. It was dark and damp (due to the fact that it was hidden underground rather than in a highly conspicuous skyscraper) and nothing like Canary Wharf at all. Ianto was glad of it.

Owen Harper was a twat. He was an arrogant bastard but a good doctor. He did not possess a good sense of humor. He liked to go pub crawling after work, then brag about it to everyone. This wouldn’t be so bad if Tosh wasn’t in love with him.

Toshiko Sato was a genius with computers. She made it hard for Ianto to delete CCTV footage and keep the mysterious power surges well, a mystery. She was also lonely and probably never going to get anywhere with the clueless Owen. Ianto recognized a bit of himself in her, so he probably would say he liked her best. That is, if it were a real job and not just a means to an end.

Suzie was shagging Owen, Ianto was sure of it. Some days she would come in smelling faintly of his cheap aftershave and expensive moisturizer. She was possessive of her projects (especially the glove), but Ianto didn’t mind because her workspace was always clean.

Captain Jack Harkness at first had terrified him. He was skeptical of Torchwood One (not that Ianto blamed him). Worse, the rumors about his flexible sexual tastes were most definitely true. Harkness had been as excited as him when they caught Myfanwy. Ianto had felt it. He still flirted and leered. Ianto learned a quip about harassment was the best way to go. Flirt with Jack and he’s happy, but it also kept the others from getting suspicious. Ianto wouldn’t forget about Lisa again, not even if Harkness pressed up against him again, smelling so delicious…

Overall though, Harkness was either stupid or arrogant. He didn’t know that Lisa was in the archives, hidden in the belly of the hub. He didn’t question Ianto’s diagnosis of the power surges or the missing CCTV footage. He didn’t even seem to find it odd that Ianto was always the first to arrive and the last to leave. He lived in the hub, so surely he should find it obvious that Ianto spent nearly as much time there as he did.

Overall, Torchwood Three was far more trusting than Torchwood One. Ianto wished he didn’t feel so bad for betraying that trust, even if it were for Lisa.
