So I'm driving back from college, go around onto the shoulder a bit to get around a car making a left turn - and BAM! - hit something that made my car jerk a bit. And then it was shaking a bit as I'm driving down the road, so I pull over onto the shoulder, which fortunately is wide enough, and check out the tire. I can see the air leaving; it looks like white mist. There's a big old hole right in the side of the tire. So I call Dad and ask him if he wants me to call AAA or if he wants to deal with it. "Call AAA - no, wait..." I can hear him asking my brother if he feels like giving changing my tire a try, then, "Don't call them yet; we'll be there in a bit to try and help."
As I'm waiting, a man parks at his house and then walks over to make sure I'm okay. He asks several times if I'm sure I've got help on the way, and I tell him I just talked to my dad on my cell phone and he and my brother are coming, and if I need AAA I've got that too. He looks at the tire and pronounces it dead - which Dad agreed with, and I kind of suspected, as there was a big old hole in it. It was a pretty new tire, too - not like the ones in the back which are going to need replacing soon. Now I might well need two new front tires, though the remaining tire might be new enough still that if we find an identical size and brand we can use that one instead. So we shall see - I still say I shouldn't be driving, because I've got the worst luck with cars (I'd say it was some kind of bad karma, but that sounds like an even worse pun).
So anyway, I've got a spare on and we'll see what happens with the new tire on Monday when places are open. Tomorrow we're going to get a new battery and see if that helps out with the electric things, though it hasn't done that to me since Will's house (and of course flickering headlights on the way home from Will's, but I got home safely and they didn't actually go off).
In other news, when I finally made it home from campus Mom and sis were heading out to buy a copy of the Fiddler on the Roof DVD from Barnes and Noble, so I got to tag along with them, and picked up several cool things. Also got some books for writing from Michael's where we went after that.
